First B9 Comparo
I just got my August 2005 Motor Trend and it has a 4 SUV-ish shootout. It has the B9, the Caddy SRX V-6, the Volvo XC70, and a Dodge Magnum V-6. I think if they were going to do 2 wagons and 2 SUV's they should have used a Legacy GT wagon instead. The Suby was 3rd out of the 4. The Volvo won. The Caddy was last. Oh well. Some good and some bad in the article. They hate the nose, so nothing changes there.

Alot of the articles I have read seem to favor the cars performace....but yeah every article certainly does not favor the nose of the car. Take away that grill and it becomes a cayenne.

Was that comparison based on price? Otherwise it seems like an odd group. At the very least the idea that they should rank them doesn't make sense to me.

I guess I should add some of the perameters. Price, basic interior size, and power. In finishing order:
1. Volvo XC70 AWD $42,280, 3828lbs, 2.5L Turbo 5, 208hp, 0-60 7.6 sec 2. Dodge Magnum $30,555, 4189lbs, 3.5L V-6, 250hp, 0-60 8.7 sec 3. Subaru B9 Tribeca $38,320, 4252lbs, 3.0 F-6, 250hp, 0-60 9.2 sec 4. Cadillac SRX V-6 AWD $43,575, 4468lbs, 3.6L V-6, 255hp, 0-60 7.7 sec They pointed out the disparity in 2 wagons and 2 SUV's, but point out that crossovers are more like wagons now then traditional SUV's. Still I think an 3.0R or 2.5GT would have done alot better. And the Cayenne looks LIGHT YEARS better then the B9, and it also has an available 4.5L Twin Turbo V-8. I'd take a Cayenne tomorrow if the dealer took wife and kids in trade. |

The B9 is $40,000?! Holy god, that thing is never gonna sell.
I think the nose of the thing is absolutely hideous. But I saw one the other day and nearly broke my neck staring so hard thinking, "wtf is that?!" Then I saw the front and realized it and thought - "oh that new subaru ...eh - caught me lookin...." but ...40,000?! SUBARU LEARNED THOUGH - the B9 has 10 CUP HOLDERS!!!!!

The Cayenne is also more expensive then the B9 and Porsche gets more spontaneous $$$ then Subaru ever does as well.

They should change it from Tribeca, to Trifecta, because it hit all three; overweight, ugly, and slow. It also got the worst combined mpg of the 4, 18. GM takes hold at Fuji......

Sorry to burst your bubble but you cannot smack the "Trifecta" label as you put it on anyone else other than Subaru. The base is a stretched Legacy chassis, the suspension components probably come from there as well, the engine is their run of the mill EZ30 and the interior is draped in anything Subaru made or bought. Sure, GM might have silently suggested something to them about making an SUV, but Subaru didn't have to take it. Also I’m sure that GM didn’t take FHI as a whole, with it being the sole proprietor of Japanese defense aviation and probably arms as well, the Japanese government would make sure its not foreign tainted.

It was tongue in cheek, also know as sarcasim. GM did suggest the use of a universal architechture for a Chevy and Subaru SUV with different noses from the A Pillar forward only. The design theme was cancelled after they coudn't get a cradle that would fit both Subaru's 3.0L F-6 and Chevy's Chinese made 3.6L V-6. While the Legacy was the starting point, there aren't many 4200lb Outbacks. 250hp is not enough for this market. At $25k you can live with almost 10 sec 0-60, but when you sell it for close to $40k, people expect more. The inside looks real nice in person, but a $40k automobile is a statement and this one is ugly.
