Rear Subframe bushings

The eminent Mechanic dropped my rear subframe, cut the sockets and pressed out a few bushings. This is from a 96 car at 154.000 KMs:

These will get shipped to Poland presently and new poly bushings will be made.

The Mechanic, who is doing a great job on this car, was under the impression that the factory had not intended these bushings to be swapped. He had to fabricate a little to get the job done. Apparently, all four mounthing bushings are the same type.

Will report back as soon as I hear anything from Strongflex.

Re: Rear Subframe bushings

These are from the old sub-frame correct? So you are going to change the bushings on the new frame?
If so, how did he move the car off the lift and out of the way without the sub-frame? Dollies?
I'm interested to hear how it goes with Strongflex.
The old sub-frame from my '97 with 250K looked far worse than that. My car came from a heavy salt use area of Ontario and used to be driven year round.

Re: Rear Subframe bushings

I think the car is still on the lift, to be honest. He's doing this as a hobby-cum-money these days.

The idea is to ship all four mounts to Strongflex and see what they can do. I think refabrication is the most likely route, i.e reusing the metal and substitute the old rubber with polyehturane. He may want to machine a new metal part and then manufacture complete replacements... I don't know

At any rate, this is the only viable way. The subframe assembly (which was the only source of the mounts) is EOL.

Re: Rear Subframe bushings

The new bushes are shipped and will be available from Strongflex. Will take photos and report on details when they are received, pressed in and subframe is installed into the car.

Re: Rear Subframe bushings

Superb service from Strongflex and got full rear suspension pack + the new rear crossmember bushings today:

The Eminent Mechanic was happy, but we suspect the end crowns might not be a snug fit and would need some shaving. Time will tell as the guy who was supposed to sand and paint the suspension parts and crossmember never did so. Will update further story here and to Strongflex so they can adjust the product in case it's not 100%.

No product number appears to be on Strongflex pages yet, Earle. We will mount it all in the upcoming weekend, by which time we will understand better exactly how well the fit is, i.e if Strongflex need to make any alterations. He may want to fine tune the bushes if any alterations are needed.

As for price, I cannot tell as he was kind enough to not charge me.

Re: Rear Subframe bushings

I already posted this pic on facebook but, tracking the thread here on that social medium, let me wrap this thread up here:

* All well with Subframe bushes.
**** It would be VERY interesting to know if the same bush is used in the front subframe.

* Car runs really nice and fine with the 80 ShA on stock suspension, 235/45/17 wheels. Luxurious, yet firm.

* Fully orderable from Strongflex (or J. Beasly if you want someone stateside). 23-26 Euro per bush, it seems
