It hurts!
So when I was checking SVX's engine room, suddenly I felt like that somebody banged my head from above. It was the hood! The hood suddenly(maybe it was slowly) dropped on my head. After that, the 2 stays that hold up the hood are useless. Oh, my head is fine, by the way.
I also looked for SVX hood stay parts, but those are pricy.. 68bucks for each stay. Sooner or later this might happen again, so I was thinking and wondering if anyone did some modification on your SVX's hood stay, like installing conventional steel rod to hold the hood up. Anyone?

Some have used some cllips that go on the stays so they won't come down (search), and I have some pictures in my locker of a rod that I use on my Blue SVX with the carbon fiber hood.

I had an extra minute or two so I did it for ya.
Here is a solution to the hood stays. And here is a thread that gives some more ways to keep your head from getting hurt.

use an old broomstick to hold it up, but wrap it carbon fiber so you don't look like a fool.

Thanks guys for info. and safety helmet idea
I guess that clip thing seems really useful at this point. Is it available at some auto stores too? I have bought used shocks for the trunk lid, and they didn't work well, so if I buy those hood stays, I was going to get new ones. But those are very EXPENSIVE!!

here's a possible cheap solution i've heard about, but i can't confirm that it actually works.......
someone told me once that if you put a slight curve into the shock while its extended (hit with hammer?), the resistance will allow the hood to stay up. obviously deforming it too much won't allow you to shut the hood, so go easy on it i guess. if they're really shot, i guess it can't hurt?

You pulled a "rufus"!
I had the same problem with the hatch on our old Taurus wagon. Door was heavy as hell, too. I had a 5/8" wooden dowel in the gasrage that was just the right length to prop the hatch fully open. Kept the dowel in the trunk and just swung it out when needed. You could do the same with the SVX I am sure and would only cost a couple bucks at the local Home Depot. Would get you by until you had the coin to get a new gas strut for the hood. You may even find a replacement strut at the local autozone. They have replacements for nearly any application and it would likely be cheaper than a factory replacement strut.

I second the vote for a pair of mini vice grips. They fit nicely in the arm rest void, been using them all summer with no headaches.
