Re: Power Mode Selection

You guys might think I'm crazy. Let me explain:
When I bought my SVX, it kicked A**
When the Trans was rebuilt, It wasn't as good.
When I swaped it for a 4.44, it was better, but not like the original.
In other words, it has never been the same.
Now with the power mode, It kicks A** again!
I could swear that the original trans was just as strong as in power mode now. Am I just imagining this?

Re: Power Mode Selection

dannmarr - I have a 4.44 in my car also, and I felt the opposite of what you said happened with yours. the 4.44 improved acceleration, and that general power feeling using the butt dyno. What torq converter and TCU did you use when you did the swap?

Remember the stock trans was a 3.54 and you put a 4.44 in, so you went from a top end transmission to an acceleration transmission. I think what you are noticing is the difference in where the power gets used on the EG33 engine. I makes its peak power from 3500-5000 and seems a bit flat between 1500-2500 (At least my 92 does, always had even with teh 3.54 in it)

Sorry if this **** dont make sense, been up all night.. gotta love insomnia

When it comes to passing people on the highway, it does its job very well.

Here is a video of an SVX with tranny swap doing 55-100mph.

I thought it be faster...why does it seem to be 3 secs slower than my stock tranny from 80-100mph?

It shifts out of second @ redline at 67mph?? So you never see 2nd gear on a 65mph highway in a 4.44???

I really enjoy that drop to second in my svx when passing people on the highway..

Can someone with a 4.44 clear up my confusion. Is 3rd really that slow to pull or does the guy in the video have slow svx??
I asked this before... never really got an answer..

Anyone with a 4.44 got an 60-100mph wot video?
14secs from 60-100 for him, 11secs for me.

The 80-100mph that is WAY slower in that video.. like 3 secs slower...
Takes me 5secs, takes him 8secs...

Re: Power Mode Selection

I found out why my car wasn't as powerfull as it was before. A bad coil
Front, driver side. Amazon sells the front coil for $120. Anybody buy from them? That is the cheapest I found.

Re: Power Mode Selection

Thanks for the quick response! Subaruparts is $95 with shipping charges. Last last two orders I made with them took much longer than they said. Amazon says it will be delivered on Monday with free shipping. Hard choice, time or $?

Then do what I and quite a few other do. Order from Jackie at Annapolis Subaru. If you order on Monday, you should see it by Wednesday I'd bet. Shipping will be cheaper and the actual price will probably beat subaruparts.com as well. I just note subaruparts.com as they have the easy to use parts catalog.

Re: Power Mode Selection

I replaced the coil and what a difference! I also soldered the power mode connection directly inside the box. It kept falling out of the slot. Don't have to worry about it coming loose.

Just posting to say I dug into my photos and found the ones I used for this thread, reuploading them to imgur. All the photos in the first post should work now.

Re: Power Mode Selection

a little bit of a bump, wondering if anybody has wiring pinouts or such, would like to disable my parking light switch and turn it into a power mode switch.

To be honest it is easier for me to select it using the pedal rather than the key but if you want to do that, you can go to the how to power mode and connect those two to the switch.
Based on the wiring diagram that I have, the switch connects "fuse block pin E8" to "fuse #21 (F/B pin D11) "
or "red-wht" to "blu-red"
Hope you can find the wires

The sad story is that, the Aust/UK version doesn't have the Power Map at that location, we have the Economy map, that they didn't give us a switch to turn it on.
I have a ROM fitted that has the Economy map replaced with the JDM power map, that works better that the US version, that is only an acceleration map.

Harvey.

oh :/ no wonder it didnt work then

i know the jdm ones have the power mode button and the uk ones have the economy button but ours have neither of them

so how does the power mode engage on the aust spec ones
(mine is weird it works most of the time under 80 kph , but no matter how many times i mash the pedal wont engage over 80 )
is there some other way to make it come on without the rom
