amusing little gas station incident

Happens all the time, I know, but still ....

I pull into the gas station and fumble with the credit-card thingy. It won't accept my card, so I have to reinsert it over and over and play with the keypad. I'm imagining the attendants in the booth are wondering out loud, "What the heck this guy is trying to do?" Eventually I get the dang thing started and begin to pump gas. I look toward the booth, and sure enough, there are a couple of people watching me.

Anyway, as I'm finishing up, one of them comes out of the booth and walks toward me. Oh, oh. I knew there was a problem with my credit card.

"Excuse me, sir ... I have to ask you a question."

"Yes?"

"We were wondering ... do only part of your windows roll down?"

*chuckle*

I end up demostrating the windows, and she's blown away. She thanks me.

*grin*

I posted my favorite comment, on the Yahoo club. I'd had my car less than a month. Some of you "long timers" may remember it. It stands as my favorite, and most colorful comment, to this day. I've copied it from the archives:

I had stopped into the local Franey's Food Mart for a cup of processed English Toffee cap . . . cappi . . . capu . . . hell, Italian Coffee, and sitting in the parking spot next to my Baby was a rusted out 78 Fairmont. As I approached my car, the toothless lady with the blue bandana "do-rag," looking somewhat like a heroin addict, stuck her head out the window and yelled (though I was close enough to hear her in her normal tone), "I just HAVE to tell you . . . THAT is a nice-ass car." Being from Kentucky, I can appreciate the most upper crust of bourguois compliments. "Nice-ass." It does roll "spritely" off the tongue.

I traded stories with a local owner a few months ago. She told me that on a road trip she was very tired, so she pulled off the freeway in to a reast area to take a nap.

She awoke to a dozen or so National Guardsmen, in BDUs, surrounding her car. One of them was knocking on the window because they all wanted to ask about the car.

the last time i got pulled over, the cop and i spent more time talking about the car than what i did wrong. he was surprised to hear that it was a subie and that it was 10years old. we talked so much as he was walking away to get back in to his car i asked him if he wanted to see my liscence... he asked me if i had one and i said yes and he laughed and just walked back to his car.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

Brad,

I like to tell them the following:
"The bottom panes roll down like normal windows and the upper panes roll up into the headliner like a moon roof privacy panel."

The teens are the ones that usually belive this.

Wouldn't that be cool if it really did that?
