Those 'other days' happen to me all the time. That's why fuel consumption is never a concern for me!

I went to Mike's site - subarusvx.org - and looked over his car. The only 1/4 he lists is a 16.5 he ran back in 7/02. The main performance mods he's listed are a Stebro exhaust and underdrive pulley. I doubt his is the fastest - it'll take way more mods than that to be the fastest NA SVX.

Green1995svx

Walter (poweredx2) had to do a crap load of work including porting his intake manifold, exhaust, disconnecting the pulley to the AC, intake and switching to smaller tires for better gearing. He may have done some other stuff as well...

that was a long time ago

he currently has a 1.8l impreza 5mt with a stage 3 spec clutch

the car tops out at 120 at redline in 5th
it's fast, very fast

Tell Mike to take it to the dragstrip. I can't believe the 4.11 gears will top out at 120 in 5th, unless he made an adjustment to the gear ratios. My future 4.44 gears will top out at ~166 in 4th @ 7000rpm (after installing Longass's chip that will raise the fuel shut-off point)

Either way, it's hard to quantify seat-of-the-pants fast. Unless he runs his car at the dragstrip, it'll be impossible to say for certain that his car is faster than poweredx2's (or mine when my mods are done).

Believe it. With the current 3.55 gears and overdrive 4th, our theoretical top speed is over 200mph!

The 4.44 gears raise the rpm level at any given speed by approx 500-600rpms. In 4th gear, with the torque convertor locked, with the revised fuel shut-off from Longass, it'll be doing ~166mph at 7000rpms.

PM Mychailo if you don't believe me - he's a mathematician and can break it down for you...

-Chike

P.S. To redline at 120mph in 5th, Green1995svx would have had to change the internal gear ratios in the tranny. He may have done away with the overdrive gear completely...

Theoretically possible? Yes. Actually Possible? Not so sure about that one.

I'm sure it'll be very possible. Sonar who has a 'stock' awd euro SVX with 3.70 gears has run to 267 km/h (or 166mph) in a timed event held in Sweden. If my SVX had 4.44 gears alone along with Longass's chip, I don't see why I couldn't do 165+ mph in reality - except that I'd have to find a race track to do it on...

I know the computer on no car allows the torque converter to be locked at WOT. Unless you can circumvent that mechanically or by shorting the selonoid....it will not be locked on this "high speed run"

Good point.

However, the fuel cut-off with Longass's tuned ECU is 7400 rpms. I'm sure 160+mph will be very possible with that high of an rpm band to work with...

Yup. The speed limiter is in the ECU. Longass removes it on his chip...

How to 4.44?

Personally, I don't care too much about gas mileage as I'm switching over from an SVT Lightning that got 14mpg in mixed city/highway.

Chike,

If you really want the 4.44 gears, you might want to revive the last 4.44 thread. We still need some help!

Someone has to step up and tell us where to get the gears. Check it out, I don't know how to reference the thread.

Re: How to 4.44?

That's cool. I revive it in a little bit. On the advice of Mike (aka Rufus), a '96 Outback w/ a 4EAT will have 4.44 gears and with a 4.44 gear rear diff, the swap should be relatively straight-forward (i.e. no messing with the TCU). One thing, you'll need to swap the R&P gears out of the donor rear diff into the svx rear diff, to keep the LSD.

I really can't give too much technical advice, as everything I've learnt about these gears and this swap is from Rufus and Mychailo.

However, from what I've heard, the swap can be done!
