How long are you scrubbing for? On each of my three applications I've spent like 20 minutes rubbing away at those lights!

Also, you'd want to use a very coarse or rough rag. A smooth cloth would not do the trick!

There's a difference between 'dirty' and 'UV damaged.' Yellowing is a sign of UV damage. (Sometimes it's a greenish-yellow, which is some sort of algae.) I've seen a gadjillion early 90s (~1990-1992) Subarus with yellow lights. The funny thing is that the corner marker lights are perfectly clear...at least it's funny to people who don't have that problem. The corner light plastic resists the radiation, whereas the headlights do not. Don't try to use sandpaper, or steel wool, or harsh chemicals to fix them. There may be some treatment that helps reduce the yellowing, but I've never seen one. Removing UV damage would require a chemical able to do something akin to revulcanizing the plastic.

I would love do the insides too if I ever get the courage. How risky is it and how long does it take (the ovening thing)?

Not too long maybe an hour to get off and apart. You have to pop the corner lights forward to access the screws to get them out.

just take your car to a local body shop. if they have time, it should only take like 10 minutes and cost you very little. i do it every 4-5 months and they look great. i do it myself and they dont charge me, but i use very high grit sand paper with some kinda of a polish, then a higher grit with different polish stuff, then buff with the power buffer and mystery polish 2. i will try to get the names of the polishes for ya and the exact grit numbers

I use Blue Magic Plastic/Plexiglass cleaner. $4 at local parts store. Use a rough cloth and scrub real hard. It won't last forever, but man does it make a difference!!

I sanded my headlights...

and used 3M scratch remover, and now my headlights are crystal clear! Took like 2 hours of scrubbing to get rid of the scratches from sanding, but the headlights look as good as new!
