WRX police car

I don't know where else to post this, so I'll just start a thread I guess.

CNN Headline News had a clip this evening about a town in Washinton state using a yellow WRX for a police car. The flashing lights and siren were nicely hidden. The interviewed officer said he REALLY surprised a Corvette with it the other day...
(on loan from Subaru, by the way....) Don

About time. I can spot the crown vics, impalas, and police interceptors from miles away. About time they use the imports as undercover.

What a coinky-dink.

I just visited the Subaru High Mileage Club today and saw the story submitted by a police cheif in Colifax, WA. They just bought an Outback sedan to use as a regular patrol car. Go check it out at http://hometown.aol.com/nv1z/subaruhighmileage.html. Then click on 'stories.'

Thumbs up Undercover Outbacks....and Chief Barney!

.....and our good friends over in "the other" Virginia can attest to the use of Camaros and Mustangs as undercover police cars!

Richer townships should use Lambos.... Don

If you bought a new Subaru recently it gets you a subscription the their "Driven" magazine.
Anyway there was an article about 5 or 6 months back where a small sherrifs office did the same thing. they used a white one and had it badged so it wasnt as incognito.

re: wouldn't it be nice

wouldn't it be nice if the cops are grateful for such a good loaner car and let subaru drivers off with a warning if you go a little over the speed limit . still dreaming....

Stop the vehicle and come out with your hands up.......

As we've had the Imprezza turbo for a few years longer than you guys, we have had a few "sleepers" as traffic cop cars. There have been Ford Escort Cosworths (250hp four wheel drive), Volvo T5's (Volvo 850 cylinder turbo) and Imprezza turbos. The problem with some forces has been what you guys call "incitement" from the officers goading motorists to committ speeding offences.

Phil.

I guess the GM interest in Subaru is showing. Since the Police don't want their Impalas any more I guess they'll be offering up some STI's/WRX's. This could be GOOD! Police usually dump their cars at about 100,000 miles, just about the time a Subaru is hitting it's prime! Used STI's/WRX's on State internet sites to follow:::

I've seen lots of posts that have the words "Subaru" and "GM" in the same area.... Please don't tell me that a great car company like Subaru is owned by GM... I have only owned one GM car... A 1991 chevy z-24... My nick name for them are "Crapaliers", that's right Mike, you know I hate Chevy's!!! But I really think that if GM owns some of subaru that would really kinda turn me away from buying another subaru..... Please someone tell me that what I have heard isn't true......

Subaru owns a portion of Subaru's parent company. There are Subarus in other parts of the world using GM engines, and the Forester is branded as a Chevy in some markets.

I once remember seeing a "Parting Shots" pic in Road and Track of a small town in France that used a Countach as its only police car.

You think that's bad, go to the Ford web site.
http://www.ford.com/en/vehicles/default.htm
Click on Vehicles and Services. Go to each of the various categories and see what you come up with. Sad, sad indeed that autos with such rich heritages could not make it on their own.

Don - do you remember the name of the town here that had the yellow WRX? That would definitely be a good undercover car. In the last couple of years I've seen a lot more odd undercover vehicles on the freeways during commute time. Only way I would know is that I see them pulled over behind someone with their lights flashing, usually from inside the windows or out of the bumpers where you don't see them till their on. Mid-90's model Suburbans (actually saw an article in Popular Science on those years ago, they were being sold to law enforcement as "highway enforcement" rather than off road patrol. The article mentioned the specs on these and other patrol package vehicles for the year, but for the Suburban under top speed, it said "classified" ). Of course the Camaros. But the weirder ones...... a late model silver Volvo wagon... a black Dodge Dakota with rally stripes........ a green Honda Civic.

I'll have to cruise through Colfax sometime, sounds like a cool place.
