"All the Fixin's"
Many of you already know that The 2 major problems that I have with my SVXi are:
The '97 needs a rear oxygen sensor. The 96's & 97's have 3 sensors. My dealer qouted me $289, installed. The exhaust sytem must be dropped and the sensor cost $140 on the dealer's computer. My '92 needs a right rear wheel bearing. Tell me something that I don't already know. The dealer qouted me $266, intalled and takes 4.5 hrs. I'm going to do the brg. job first. I've been using the 92 every day to & from work. At 60- 70 mph, it sounds like there is a freight train on my rear bumper. Also, I read about using mid-grade (89 octane) gasoline in the SVX. I filled my 92 up with it on Sunday. So far the car has gone ~100 miles and I used half a tank. This is all expressway driving. milage seems to be about 65-70% of what I get on premium. I'll switch back to 93 Octane on the next fill up, which will probably be tomorrow night. So much for the grand experiment.

That freight train is either your wheel bearing getting ready to self destruct or the infamous resonator failure.
I ultimately replaced both rear housings and bearings to eliminate the bearing failure problem...cost 1600+..but well worth it. Haven't lost a bearing since, knock on wood. I corrected the resonator problem by having it cut out of the exaust system $70. That lasted until I failed my emissions test. At 227,000 miles the 3 Catalytic converters don't do $#^*. Cost for that replacement (including some pipes) was $2400...The replacement tail pipe has no resonator. Clyde |

I've had dealers want to replace oxygen sensors on my car before. Then I started taking to my local Porsche/Ferrari/Rolls Royce repair center and they removed the Oxygen sensors, clean the gunk off them and put them back in. Total bill was about $80 and they haven't gone bad since. That was back at about 160,000 miles ago and five years ago.
Dealers prefer to swap parts instead of fixing them, but when you have a car like a Rolls that is often a six month wait for parts, you get the skills to repair parts. Doug
