I have never had my house broken into, but when my car was violated a few years back, it made it seem so weird to drive it. It was like someone I didnt know had been in there... hard to describe. I hope everything turns out OK.

Very sorry for your turn of events, Joe. I wish you the best in moving on with your life and getting your SVX back in good order. I've had one of my vehicles burgled in the past as well as having someone attempt to break into my home while my wife and I were sleeping and it does indeed make one feel very violated. It took my wife years to get over that one and to feel safe in her own bed at night.
If anything it puts one's priorities into perspective and makes you realise how far more important the safety of your loved ones is compared to material posessions. I wish you the best

Johnny, good wishes appreciated. This club gives serious support to it's members when the chips are down.
I agree entirely. People are what counts. As a car nut, very easy to get in a rant about a scratch or a dinge, and difficult also not to take it personally when someone harms your "baby" But my other baby and her babies are on the top of my worry list. You gotta keep it in perspective. Joe

Late to the post
Joe, I just now found your post....and I don't know what else to say that hasn't already been said, so I will pass along our appreciation that you and yours are OK, and hope the authorities recover what the thieves took, and your insurance repairs the damage. My only similar experience was having my car stolen from right under my apartment back when I was stationed near D.C. with the Navy. You get this strange sensation of violation. An unease that one person discribed as going through a earthquake; one's sense of stability and security is shaken.
Wishing you all the best, and keep us updated please. Don and Jean

Hi Don and Jean
Good to hear from you. I have been buoyed up through the week with all the good wishes from across the pond. We are happy that the intrusions only led to loss of or damage to property. We ourselves are none the worse for wear, except for the feeling of insecurity you mention. Pat, the transmission guy, has now done a reman on the old box I took out nearly two years ago. Lucky I had the spare lying around. He has it rebuilt and back on, and has fitted the cooler. Hope to be collecting it tomorrow, and initial impressions are the tranny is shifting well, and all works as expected. I hope this fix will be the last the car needs. I expect to be paying him about $1500 for the work. However, it is yet to be decided what the insurance is going to pay for the loss of my spare tranny. The difference between $2500 for a reman with core trade-in and a new tranny at c. $4300 is $1800. I actually paid $1400 for the spare second hand one in England, close enough for a rough valuation. So I am out of pocket $1400 to $1800. This is nearly the same as what I owe him for the work. Will be glad to have my motor back, and going well. I had the rear bearing done last month, and the car is nice and quiet now, so I look forward to the pleasure of gliding along in top listening to the stereo. Will keep you posted Joe

Hey! Teacher!...Leave them cats alone
Don,
From your by-line I surmise that wives are not in the same collectible objects or pets class as cats or cars. You seem to have stopped at one wife Joe

I'm feeling a bit pink, Floyd.
<Hey...teacher....leave them cats alone!>
Jean tells me that the "one wife" thing is not negotiable, but cats are another matter. She says "the more, the merrier!" All in all, its just another cat in the hall.... Don
