guess trying to hit-and-run isnt a crime

Just got rear ended when I was stopped for a firetruck (I wasn't driving the SVX). Guy tried to run but the guy behind him chased him down and caught up several blocks later when he ducked in to a parking lot to figure out what was dragging on the front of his car. My passenger and I had to go to the ER. Nothing broken, just bruised and sprained and a bit of a concussion (I was seatbelted but twisted in my seat looking to change lanes so I got bounced around and hit my head and neck). Now I'm all scanned and splinted and drugged but it hurts a lot and I'm friggin pissed that the guy that hit me is (except for his old crappy car) fine. Grrrrrr. I was sick to my stomach but I missed the chance to vomit on the guy.

Grumble whine btch moan whimper

Police say they since he didnt escape its not a crime (the nice guy who chased him down and cornered him got him to give his insurance information)

Not a fun weekend, at least the ER gave me enough drugs to share with all the trick-or-treaters

Re: guess trying to hit-and-run isnt a crime

Lol thanks Cam but I doubt he has any money. His car was a POS.

But be careful driving, the accident occurred in your hometown, watch out (in your rear view mirror) for an old white chevy driven by a big sloppy hairy middle-aged chain-smoking white guy with plate ABZ8970.

It hurts too much to sleep, wish I had his home phone so I could let him know at 1am, 2am, 3am, and 4am just how I feel.

When the drunk woman in a mail truck smashed my 91 Legacy, (while parked), she made it 3 blocks before my neighbor caught up with her. OUR cops called it 'Hit and RUN' because she didn't stop on our street.

+1... this is bull**** and you should file a complaint with the police dept. to make sure you have a paper trail...

The kind of injuries you suffered have a tendency of resurfacing a couple months later and any type of claim for insurance from the other driver is unlikely to be accepted unless you have great documentation... Just be sure you have your end covered and I hope you get better

Re: guess trying to hit-and-run isnt a crime

Police dont want to give me an accident number - I called them back because it looks like he mighta given me false insurance info. His insurance says that the car that hit me isnt insured with them (a couple of his cars are, and his insurance broker says the chevy is one of them, but the insurance carrier says it isnt). The police say its none of their business and that I should just let my insurance handle it, they didnt even let me tell them his name (Freda Wilson is the name he gave me, but who knows if that is right) or license plate. Grrrrrrrr. This is friggin baffling, not quite sure what to do.

Anyone ever dealt with this carp?

Re: guess trying to hit-and-run isnt a crime

It is the police's responsibility to generate and distribute the report. It is also their responsibility to pursue the driver with charges for fleeing the scene of an accident. Like I said, don't give up on this. Demand to file a report and if not file a formal complaint. If that does not get you the right attention tell them you are going over their heads and go to the state police with the situation and any information you have. Also make sure you keep track of hospital and doctor's records... Keep all of this handy for the next year at least.

This is good advice l. Sounds like someone is too lazy to do paperwork at the station. I agree, don't give up. Talk to the chief.

Re: guess trying to hit-and-run isnt a crime

It happened on a state hwy so I was going to check if state patrol had any jurisdiction (the last time I spoke with state patrol their guy threatened to beat me up, but that was when we were working together with boyscouts ). A dispatch friend of mine is running the plates for me tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice/listening-to-me-complain

Re: guess trying to hit-and-run isnt a crime

That is rediculous. It is absolutely a hit and run. Push the issue and don"t take no for an answer. Don't know how Washington works, but here you can go to the District Attorney if the local PD doesn't follow through.
