Re: Subie Guru - new to SVX, saying hi, need advice

Thanks Johnny!

I got the site up and running around Jan of 2008. I was actually in the process of building one, when I discovered one already existed. It was created by a gentleman in the Army, who was "supposed" to be heading to Utah... but ended up getting re-routed elsewhere. The site empty and unused for 3 months.

I took it over..... started advertising the hell out of it.... promoting meets, etc..... and last I checked, we are at 350 or 360 members

I invite you to sign in.... although admittedly the wife is upset because she wanted to be the only SVX--LOL But don't let that stop you

I'll be the guy handing out T-shirts.... and basically trying to organize everything. Last year I did it alone..... but I have volunteers this time toi help out

Here's a direct link to the meet announcement.

Or... just sign in and create an account... it's free

Re: Subie Guru - new to SVX, saying hi, need advice

I just PM'd Mike about that burgundy 94.....

Got a buddy in NY that will happily do a PPI for me.... got another buddy in NJ that will allow my daughter and I to crash there, and at least save me a night in a hotel.

Guess we'll see what happens

I believe Mitch (uncamitzi) still lives in or around SLC. I'll shoot him a PM and see if he's interested.

Re: Subie Guru - new to SVX, saying hi, need advice

Welcome to the site! I too am still somewhat of a noob, (just bought my first SVX a couple months ago, but not my first Subaru by any means), but I've found this to be by far the most useful and friendly forum I've ever seen. There is a wealth of knowledge here and for the most part the members are willing to help you with any problem you might encounter.

As for the new format, the SVX EG33 engine is basically a larger version of the standard Subaru boxer engine. It has some differences, but anyone that has done any work on a Subaru engine will have a pretty good idea of what's going on under the hood. From what you've said about your WRX, I don't see that the SVX will be out of your comfort zone by any means.

Good luck on finding your car, and if we ever get any sort of Rocky Mountain or West Coast meets up and going be sure to keep an eye out for me (I'd LOVE to go to Reading, but that's one heck of a drive for me and will require a lot of planning/money to realize.)

Matt

Welcome to the board.

SLC is pretty close to Death Valley.

Keep your eyes open for a SVX cruise from Death Valley to Mammoth early next year.

re: potential problems w/the SVX, I rarely hear of head gaskets popping. It’s mostly transmission maybe the wheel bearings.

In terms of parts interchangeability, there are very few parts that can go from the Impreza/legacy chassis to the SVX. The only thing that comes to mind is the auto tranny from a legacy, but I can’t be 100% sure. Things can be “made” to fit like the 5 speed swap and the WRX steering column, but axles, hubs, wheels, AC compressor etc are for the SVX only.

Go to this site and read about Road and Tracks book about the new SVX (circa 1991)
http://www.svx-iw.com/svxiw/road_track/
It’s a great read to know more about the SVX and what a great car it was.
