Not many 5 Speeds for sale? going price?

Hey guys/gals, I havent seen too many 5 speeds for sale in the last few months. I saw one on ebay a few weeks ago for a starting bid of 5K but ended with no bids. With the price of the conversion about 4K that didnt seem too high a price.

What have yall seen?

Seeing that I am in the middle of purchasing the $5000 SVX you saw on ebay for a little more than that... I think $5000 is a VERY good price.
Having looked into what the conversion requires and the cost of everything involved it was something I couldnt pass up.

I would agree with that thought. As long as the car is in good condition.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a car that had a tranny conversion with non-stock parts just as I wouldn't buy a car that had its engine swapped for one of a different make or non standard for the car when new unless I knew the person who did the conversion and had already driven similar converted cars by that person plus had the opportunity to have your garage go over the car with a fine tooth comb. There is a big difference between a well done conversion and a hack job. Then you add just what you said in there not being a lot of converted, it doesn't give you a large choice to decide from. Just with any speciality car or virtually any car you buy the best available in the price range you are looking in. When only a few come up for sale nationwide in a year that doesn't give you many to look at. I'm somewhat concerned with the idea that $5k sounds good. Remember the SVX is an expensive car to own and run. I too think the cost of a sub 100k Jag XJ12 sounds great at $5k. Until you realize it'll cost you another $15k to make it run/look like a $10k XJ12.

To each his or her own, to be sure, but to my thinking a manual transmission conversion would diminish the value of an SVX.

"A car is worth what someone will pay for it."
If a person wants a manual trans SVX... and have decided that they WILL have one... then the value of one with a conversion is greater to them.
If I had it set in my mind that I wanted a 5 speed... and nothing would satisfy me but that... then one that is perfect with a good auto looks less appealing to me than one that is in good shape with the swap already done... due to the cost of the parts and time/labor to do the swap.
If you want an SVX that is as close to perfect and original as you can get... then any manual is out of concideration no matter the cost.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it's the only thing that gave mine prospective value to me. I wouldn't have bought it in any condition at any price without the swap.

Everybody's got somethin'. I've got the jones for a MTX.

I wouldnt buy one with the swap already done, unless I knew the person who did it personally. Id pay the extra for the car to be done right, and wait the time as well...If that meant buying one with an auto and doing the conversion myself..so be it

Personally, I would not buy an SVX pre-swapped with a manual trans, unless it was tom's 6speed, or one tom did, only because you don't know for sure what tranny went in, if the install was done right, etc. It's an easy thing to screw up, or over-look things, etc, and you dont' want to inherit their problems.
