what kind of mileage do you get?

Just curious about what a typical SVX gets for mileage off the board.

My stock '95 LSi (well, cone filter and removed resonator) got 28 mpg on a trip to SC last week and on one tank even got 30 going about 85 mph the whole time. I love that tall gearing though, 3k rpm @ 95 mph in 4th gear!!

Also, I'm still pretty new to the SVX game, and I hear alot about tranny swapping, how I'll probably need a new tranny by the time I'm finished typing this post, may as well buy a spare tranny now, blah blah blah... Point is, I'd like to get ahold of a 4.44 tranny if I could. I've heard a fair amount about the 4.11 tranny and that seems all well and good, but as often as I drive the car, I really don't think I'd mind the worse mileage that's associated with a 4.44 since the plus side is the better acceleration, and a beefier (correct me if I'm wrong) tranny.

Like I say, I'm still clicking on every link I see trying to find out as much as I can, but sometimes the quickest way to find something is just to ask! There are a bunch of you guys out there that have been where I am now and have the answers, so I may as well ask!

p.s. which would you recommend 4.44's or 4.11's and why? and what models do each come out of again??

Sorry again for the noob questions, but I very much look forward to some answers!

I don't know about the gears, so I'll let someone else answer... I think the 4.11 gears come out of a Legacy, and Outbacks have the 4.44, someone correct me if I am wrong...

As for transmission longevity, replace your filter and have the fluid flushed every 30,000 miles, and install an aftermarket transmission cooler and you shouldn't have too many problems. The main killer of the 4EAT is heat :-)

And for mileage, I get 24/28 out of my 90 Legacy, 18 with the o2 sensor unplugged but I dunno what my SVX gets cuz I haven't gotten it yet...

My SVX gets lousy mileage. I think I'm something on the order of 20 MPG on the last tank. I do need to replace a bunch of things though. No CEL yet, but I think new sersors would make a world of difference.

16-18mpg, but i do horrid traffic driving to and from work, and that's all the driving i do. On my recent trip to texas, i got 28.5mpg peak, 26mpg average. I have a 5speed manual trans with 3.90 gears. I have plenty of pep as well.

5-speed (2000 RS) with 4.111 gears: 15 city, 25 highway

I have to say, though, that the 15 isn't really fair to the car, as most of its driving is 5.7 miles between work and home, ten times a week, and I'm not lazy off the line. I fill it up every 3.5 weeks or so. So it spends a disproportionate amount of time warming up.

Not far from the rated 17/25 (right?)

Mine average just under 18 MPG in routine duty (about 25 miles per day); up to the high 20s at prevailing highway speeds with cruise set. No mods (excepting supplemental ATF cooler on the teal), mixed 87-92 octane fuel. Approaching 4 years of ownership, I've recorded a tick over 30 MPG a couple of times.

My Plum used to do 20-22 mpg in regular use, 50 mile round trip and lots of short cold runs.

It was practically impossible to get below 20, although once as the tranny croaked I saw 18.5. Once only.

On inter-city runs at 80+ it surprised me giving minimum 26, normal 28+, and quite a few times 30 to 32 when going easy, like normal people.

This car was designed to compete with Porsche in Europe and with the 300ZX in Japan and the Soarer also in Japan. If you owned a Porsche or 300ZX I would be surprised to see complaints about 20-25 mpg

Because the SVX is now available at tin box money, the temptation is to compare mileage to lesser, lighter newer cars that do not have the all-round capability of the SVX. Such comparisons are very unfair.

If you think the SVX is sore on juice, sell it and buy an ordinary car.

Joe

Hi,
I have averaged 20.5-21.5 mpg in a 54 mile/day commute, lots of stop and go, and hills...car is running good, get the same mpg with either 92 on the same commute.

Good

I consistently get between 27-28 on two of mine with interstate driving at speeds 80-85. I don't really check mine for local mileage, but know it is less. I actually don't drive them much for local runs even though a run to town is a 20 mile shot with no stops--just lots of fun curves.

I agree on the tall gears and wouldn't change them at all for my use of the vehicle. This is what it was designed for----"touring car".

Somewhere right around 20 for me, not sure, depends if I am going to work or school, work is straight shot most of the way at highway speeds, school on the other hand is stop and go not going above 35 >.x kills me.

Mpg

Routine is 24mpg in mixed driving. But only 22 if I mash it a lot for the week.

This is my daily driver, and I have kept a record of all fuel since I got the car.

The initial 1000 mile trip from Colorado Springs showed up with 27+mpg, and routine trips to Phoenix {250 round trip} now show up with 27 also.

Wow, I wasn't expecting this many replies in such a short amount of time, lol.

Also, yes I do plan on flushing the tranny next week probably (or as soon as I get time to hook it up to the flusher at work) and I'll toss in a cooler then and fill 'er up with some amsoil ATF.

ALso, any other more specific info on chaning the gears? I don't really want to swap to a 5-sp, as it seems to take some of the "touring car" mystique away from it, plus it's my daily, and plus... I dunno, I just could care less to have a 5-sp. It's not like I'm going to autocross it or anything. I took it to the dragstrip the other night, and I think that's what prompted my asking about different gears.

I know the car can do better than 16.1 @ 85 without modding the crap out of the motor. Gears just seem to make the most sense to me.
