Young Tom and a couple others made a thread about this. I belive the final answer was..a seperate idle speed control valve.

The latest version of the Stage 2 chip pretty much cures the 5MT stall fix. It still stalls from time to time. Experimenting with two modes of deceleration, release the clutch at 2500+ rpm, or let the clutch stay in until car slows to 1200 rpm before depressing pedal. Would say the former pro9bably works a little better.

I had the separate manual idle speed control valve, and although it cured the stall problem, much of hte time I had a 2000 rpm idle speed. I think I prefer the way things are now to the the valve.

By the way, if you choose to go to a manual idle control valve, DO NOT REMOVE THE HOSE FROM THE AUTOMATIC AIR VALVE. Leave it in place and use separate hoses to connect the bypass to the manual valve and to connect the main air inlet to the intake manifold to bypass the throttle body. The reason for this is that if you decide to change back later, you will have to remove the intake manifold to reconnect the hose to the automatic valve.

Thread hijack warning!!!! Danger, Danger, Will Robinson.

There are some alternatives to Young Tom from historical examples. There was Alexandre Dumas Pere and Alexandre Dumas Fils, (but they were really father and son) Then there was Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger. Or we could go the the Papal Example with Thomas I and Thomas II, but that has an unfortunate sequential connotation (I is usually dead by the time II comes along) So, I think maybe Young Tom, and Old Tom are a good alternative. it could be worse. You could be Old Tom ( no personal affront meant to Old Tom, merely commenting on the gift of youth). The name is a small price to pay for hanging around with guys who are older than your Dad.

Hey, you could go Junior and Senior, although there is a family connotation to that.

Hanging out with these older guys can get you a bad reppitation

maybe we can change the name of the thread to...what should we call Toms? and add a poll with all of the different names

Is there a stage one upgrade available for the stalling or only stage 2

Sorry in the interests of humor, which has been sadly lacking of late, that things have gone OT.

The stall fix as I understand it is referred to, is a mechanical arrangement whereby separate idle control is incorporated. As i remember it this was at my suggestion. All was well covered within a thread so that you should do a search.

really the manual controlled that Trevor had recommended and I threw together worked fairly well to keep the car from stalling but it did not keep the car from idling High. SO, this is left to trying to fix the high idle as well. I believe the stage 1 that is comming out soon will have the fix in it... Longassname will know for sure, try pming him and get back to us

So the idea here is that there is NO fix for the high idle but the stall that goes with it can be fixed? Will the high idle hurt anything in the car, mine idels at 1400-1900, 1400 when drivin 1900 when started. Will that idel speed hurt anything or will I just have a high idle car? Any input would be nice.
A second thing that I am a little worried about and my buddy, also my mech. is really concerned about is the fact that the transmission has no input to the computer, is that a factor? Should I worry about that? Thanks again.

I have re-installed the OEM automatic air bypass valve into the system. I also have the Stage2v6 chip. With this combination, I almost never have a high idle situation, and it doesn't stall very often. With the manual bypass, and the Stage 2 v5 chip, I often had high idle, as high as 2500 rpm, often more than 1800, and I never had a stall. Frankly, I prefer the current situation with the low idle and occasional stalls.

To be quite honest, the TCU had very little to do with the ECU and that is why we can run them seperately like we do in all 5/6mt's. The ECU has enough from the trans like reverse and neutral from the pedals... thats all it needs... If you experience high idle try simply re-starting it... This has alway made it go away for me

I ment to post this a while ago. I have the 99 2.5rs 5 speed tranny and ECU tune stage 2 chip. once i first installed these I had a stall problem when coming to a complet stop. If I would tap the gas as the RPMs fell it would not stall. So I decided to adjust the idle screw to raise the idle to 800-1000 rpm. A little high to some but works for me. I have not had a stall since then but somtimes have to re-adjust the idle screw. If anything I have said is rubish then so be it. And I know I am to too good at that whole spelling thing.
