Another Cruiser..
Well I am always interested in seeing other cars like the svx-- big, unique and FAST.. Things like some of the higher-end Volvo's, Audi's, Acura's, etc. have tickled my fancy and I just found this:
http://www.3rotor.com/jc_build_type_s.htm It's a Mazda Cosmo. Neat. This guy has dropped a 3-rotor engine (Assumedly from an RX-7?) under the hood and this car looks to be a real mover. This fellow obviously knows what he's doing both under a hood and in front of a computer. My hat's off to him. I think I might be slowly falling in love with rotary engines.. I'll have to drive one someday soon.. -adam |

At it's inception, the Cosmo was a serious sleeper, but what this guy has done - WOW. I don't recall it ever looking that great. (In fact, I thought it was kind of dumpy-looking when it was new.)

I've never seen a Cosmo before...that's a pretty neat car, though. Even neater with the 3-rotor in it.

Was this thing sold in the US? I've never even heard of it.

Yes, it was available here, but I don't recall as recently as '91. I thought it was a late '70's car. Have to do a little research. Seems like C&D said it had a top speed of around 132 in the late 70's.

It looks like Mazda introduced the rotary Cosmo concept car in 1964. I think they were imported to the U.S. during 1976 through 1978. But the example above must be quite newer than that. Enlighten me someone.

Looks like what would happen if an SVX and a Reatta had a midnight liaison.
I'd all but forgotten about the cosmo. Here's a pic of the early cosmo, from the Japanese club. http://www.yin.or.jp/user/cosmosp/ From Russia, with love. http://www.rol.ru/news/tech/autonews/02/02/01_016.htm Here's a little info on Cosmo in the US. http://www.monito.com/wankel/rx-5.html

That is a good looking car. Reminds me of a BMW 8 series, which is not a bad thing.

How long did it take???
I was telling people about this site AGES AGO in the great dark days of the Yahoo flame wars about Japanese 4WS SVX's!!! *adopts a hurt disposition* There are few in Australia - I drove one about 2 years ago...an enormous amount of power and revs like nothing else. I have some articles on it so will scan them in. Oh, they are not (at least here) the most reliable of engines and as such, you can now pick up one for about $25,000AU instead of the $50,000AU they were originally sold out *grey imports only!* Mazda Australia considered bringing them in when they had the Eunos franchise set up - but since they were already finding it hard to sell the RX-7, and since the Cosmo 20B would have retailed at about $140,000AU....they decided not to proceed. A gem of a car though!! James
