rrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRROOAARR
You know the noise......Rear Wheel Bearing.......Again, on the 5-Speed, Heck, it's only got about 3,000 miles on it! It's the first one I replaced and I don't think I repacked the grease, just used what it came packed in......now I'm wishing I had!
I'd been putting off all the little things I needed to do on the 92, while I've been working on the 94, and I guess she got a little jealous Well I can't get the new ACT clutch for a little longer If it's not one thing it's another

That sucks. From what I've read in Alldata the grease that the bearing ships in is o.k. but you need to supplement it with Shell whatever grease. What the heck - hang on and I'll get the info - BRB

Been there, done that.
Mechanic overtorques bearing. Result: bearing lasted 1000 miles. Mechainc uses original packing grease mixed with synthetic. Result: bearing lasted 6000 miles. Mechanic cleans packing grease and puts in synthetic. Result: 15000 miles later, I'm still a happy camper. YMMV. VK |

It says: Apply sufficient grease to oil seal lip. Specified grease: SHELL 6459N
If specified grease is not available, remove bearing grease and apply Auto Rex A instead. Do not mix different types of grease. Personally, I've been replacing Subaru (and many other makes) hub bearings for years and just use normal disc brake wheel bearing grease. I don't recall ever having a comeback on a wheel bearing. I just replaced the tires on mine today because the ones that were on there sounded horrible. Now that the tires are quiet I'm beginning to hear what may pan out to be the beginning of the end for my RR bearing. If so maybe I'll be able to figure out why so many people are having problems with the replacements. Beav |

has anyone ever had problems with....
front bearings? wait....there are front bearings right? hell maybe it is my tires.....

To answer your question, yes there are front bearings also and they do wear out. It just seems that they tend to outlive the rears.
Tire noise can sound a lot like a bad bearing, and can also mask the sound of one. I just need the time to do a little examination of mine. BEav |
