Ben,
So glad you made it down, and thanks for the kind words about the group. Yes, this is a GREAT group of guys and gals. Really laid back compared to the usual SCCA. That is what I enjoy about this autocrossing thing the most! BTW, great driving with the XT6. That thang does quite well, mainly, I think, to your smooth driving. I hope you will come back! Bill, There was a rainy MIST (sometimes quite heavy) ALL day long that made the course quite wet. But we all had fun anyway! We had very few spins as a result of the weather. Just so you know, my son beat me again in his SVT Focus (45.9 sec to my 46.3 sec. Ben was in the low 50's in his XT6, I think. Mike Wirt had a 45 sec run in his 911 Porsche (I was amazed at this, considering the "tail-happiness" of those Porsche's). Mike is now also regularly beating me as he gains more experience in autocrossing. Ron had a 56 sec run in his high mileage (250K miles!) 240Z - he is getting better too, and having fun! The fastest run of the day was a 325i BMW (that is modified and driven by one of the best in the area, Bill Brochu), at the 43 sec. But that was in the morning (he did not run in the afternoon) on fairly dry surfaces. In the afternoon. In the afternoon, the fastest was Honda S200 (modified) at the 43 sec range - very surprising considering he usually is known for 360 degree spin-outs . NEWSBREAK Speaking of Ron and Mike, we have two SVX HEROS!! At lunch at Sheetz, a young bum "pick-pocketed" Ron's wallet. Ron, fast on his feet, grabbed the fellow from the rear as he ran out the door, slowing him down for Mike (also fast on his feet and wanting to assist a fellow SVX'er) to join in. The obvious scuffle resulted in the bum having his angle broken and several "bleeding parts". You just don't "mess with" a SVX'er!! Mike, Ron and another fellow held the guy down until the police arrived. Scheetz, recognizing the heroic effort, provided Ron with a free cup of coffee (Ron was getting a cup when all of this occurred)!!! Now for the real story: The guy was really trying to steal Ron's beautiful 240Z !!! Great job Ron and Mike!!! And to think most people inside were just thinking there was a fight amongs the locals outside!! BTW, a surprise for all of us at the autocross: Don Addington (with Friend Barry) came up from W. VA - only about a five hour drive!! Great to see you and Barry, Don!! HarrySVX HEROS

Okay, how do I "appropriately" change the color in the text? I meant to make SVX HEROS "red" in the text with Mike and Ron's names. The red SVX HEROS next to my name can only imply I am priviledged to know the HEROS of SVX fame!!
Harry

Great write up Harry! 46.3 in the SVX isn't bad at all considering where the modified 325i and S2000 were...
So Mike made a 45sec pass in the 911! I saw that car on Friday and it is sweet - great sight lines from inside the cabin, small dimensions and a low curb weight. Sorry to hear about the bum at the Sheetz. Glad Mike and Ron sorted him out! -Chike

Winchester and changing Sheetz...
The best pun of the whole situation was...of course...Ron's...
"I gotta change my Sheetz!" It was great to see everyone...misty rain or no rain. The (Skyline) drive up was full of amazing views and dodging a bear and various bucks and does. The trip back on I-81 was rainy until Harrisonburg, then dry to Abingdon, then the skies really opened up! I know have a MUCH better understanding of what my Focus is capable of (with a very good driver and some very sticky tires) thanks to a VERY quick ride with Tom, and as if I had any water STILL left in me, I hung on for dear life as Harry put the SVX in places that I didn't even know a go cart would fit. Thanks heaps guys....what a hoot! It was a tricky course and Ron decided on his last run to take a GPS unit (Harry) with him to find all the cones. After his earlier experience at Sheetz, I'm amazed at how cool he was. I have renamed he and Mike "The Flying Sheetz Brothers" for their excellent wallet recovery work....what a tag team! My old buddy Barry was VERY impressed and kept muttering something all the way back to Tennessee about (1) Are autocross lunch breaks ALWAYS this exciting? and (2) how he is now saving up for an AMG Mercedes... Thanks again Harry and Ruth for your hospitality. You have a MAGNIFICENT new home! John, thanks for the ride back and forth to the gas/food/COPS experience at Sheetz....your SVX is a real beauty! Don

Now I feel really bad about missing out on all the fun!! Guess the bum was lucky Mike hadn't been rock climbing on Sunday (think rock hammer -- ouch!). Having done both MB and SCCA now, I can definitely second the statement that the MB bunch is a lot more "fun". I'm looking into checking out Ed Chan's bunch up at Harry Grove stadium up in Frederick (still a shorter drive than Winchester for me ) so I can get more "seat time" in. The SVX is almost all back together -- my machinist just bent me up some brackets so I can install the trans cooler in the driver's wheel well.

Hey Bill - If you're going to Frederick, you may want to go home via my place, as I've got a nearly mint rear bumper I'd like to sell 'ya. Or - I sell it to the landfill.
Ron (The Enforcer).

Not to worry, Bill - I usually start with a hamster head in the glovebox. Don Ron.
