HELP I can't see out the winshield.
I have a film of something on the windshield. It has been raining and I can't see through it. When the wiper passes I see the film and there are lines in film that are clear as day. Unfortunately the lines are 1" apart and only 3/16" wide and run down the windshield so I can't see out of them.
It looks like wax or polish or something from a car wash because of the lines that run down the windshield. They look like small streams where water ran down. I tried Windex and RainX and both do nothing.

Whenever I clean my car, I always use "Mother's Pre Wax Cleaner." It does a fantastic job at removing just "crap" from everything (except plastic of course). I always hit up the pieces of glass with the "pre wax cleaner" and it does a fantastic job!!!
Give it a shot.

Do you have an orbital buffer or a Porter Cable?
Get some Zanio glass polish... Clean your windscreen with some non-amonia glass cleaner... then polish it up with the polish and get it clean. I did this to all my glass when I picked up my SVX about 3 weeks ago and then applied some Aquapel.. I can see clear as day and water just sheets off. Anyway try a good cleaner & polish and you should have all your residue removed. Of course after you wipe the polish off. Thanks - Jon |

If you have a squirt bottle, put about an ounce of baby shampoo (really) in it, then, fill it with water. Try cleaning your windshield with that.
An old "hot rodder" remedy was to use (believe it or not) Coca Cola. I've never tried it, but, I remember my uncles used to swear by it, for cutting road grime.

Coke can also be used to free up rusty bolts and take some stains out of clothes. It's not the carbonation really, it's the acid. Unless the acid comes from the carbonation....

the only thing that actually worked was it was a GREAT chrome cleaner, everything else was like using water with no pressure.

Also, try a solution of dawn (dish washing soap) and water. That combo is used to strip wax/sealents before doing a full detail on a vehicle.

Yeah, I know all that. The whole "put a piece of meat in a glass of coke and it'll dissove overnight." Blah! My uncles actually did the windshield thing and said that it worked. I was too young to be impressed. I don't think my uncles would lie to me. "Okay, uncle Earl, I'll go look for the 2 by 4 stretcher and left-handed monkey wrench in a minute! "

Windshield Cleaner
Try " Bon Ami " This is a powdered cleaner. Use with water and a sponge. Rinse off with water. This will not scratch the glass. Also good for a lot of bugs in the summer. Take care, BOBB

There have been huge discussions about Bon Ami over on autopia.
Most people have had it work with no problems what-so-ever. But there's also a pretty large group that had it leave little pit marks on their windshields, so it looks like they had glitter on their windshields. I would only use Bon Ami if everything else fails. Good luck.
