Syracuse NY area?

Hey all...

I noticed a few people on this board from Syracuse... My g/f recently started going to Syracuse Univ. out there, and I was wondering about the area a bit more. I took a trip out there for Labor Day, but obviously since neither I, nor she knew anything about the city, we didn't find too much to do. It's also possible in the future that I might move out there for a while.

From someone who knows the area, what can I expect? What's the "nicer" side of town? What's the job market like? Do tell!!!!

Thanks all who respond!!

hi,

syracuse is a nice area, if you are looking to find a place the east side of syracuse, fayettville is really nice, north syracuse is real nice as well, that is were i live, the west side for example is camilus is real nice. Syracuse is a nice area, just be ready for snow in the winter time. But there are plenty of things to do, if you like snow it would be even better. but it is a nice area, and really really cheap place to live. if you need anything more feel free to contact me.
jerad

just need to find a good mechanic in the area that is all

Sorry, I'll only be up in Syracuse for the one day this time and have lots of work to do. I was up there for 3 days and Collins (ww111) showed me a great time at the Dinosaur Barbarque.

I should be up there again at the end of this month (Sept.) for a couple of days.

Hey Larry, If there's anything I can do for ya, give me a shout.

As far as living here. For some reason houses are selling like hotcakes. When I bought my house, it had been on the market for a year, now they're not even putting signes in the yard without the "SOLD: on them. South and West within the city limits are pretty bad. The university area is low crime but busy if ya know what I mean. Eastwood is old and Italian. Liverpool, North Syracuse, any of the outlying communities are OK. If you're of drinking age, Armory Square is actually safer at night than during the day. In the middle of the city. With lots going on.

The Job market is VERY bad and going to get worse. Rumors of Carrier UTC closing abound and that would put a lot of engineers, managers and labor types on the streets.

We may be getting the largest mall in the world but no body is real excited about creating a bunch of retail / minimum wage jobs.

Give a yell if you're coming out this way. I live in the University area, in a quiet section even.

One other thing. NO MEXICAN RESURAUNTS (WTFO).

Hope to see ya soon
Collins

Try Bounty! It's the quicker picker upper!

And much more absorbant than your pulsating balls

Err, or at least what I've heard about them.

Hmm lots of info from various people. To give a bit more detail, I'm in the technology field (worst of all to be in at this point in time)... I bounce back and forth between software engineering and IT Administration and support. I'd be looking for a quiet respectable part of the area (ie nobody peddling drugs or passing out on my doorstep), but within access to the Univ. (obviously).... I'd been considering making a career move into the world of mobile A/V, which is a booming business, but haven't been able to get certified or anything as of yet. Is there anything like that out there?

I actually contacted a volunteer group called "Come Home to Syracuse" and they said they could do things for me... but I'm not sure if that's a false hope or not...

Weather wise, I'm used to country town New England weather. I've had my share of interesting winter driving, so I'm not too worried about snow, as long as it's < 3ft on the roads. (SVX doesn't like high piled snow if you didn't notice...)

Also, is there any SVX groups out that way?? Where do they meet, if so??

Thanks!!!
