I don't know about a thousand cars, but Polyphony has said that the list will exceed 500. A partial roster was released a few months ago and confirmed that the SVX will be in GT4.

GT4 will be what GT2 was - a chance to improve on the previous version. Like GT1 before it, GT3 was a new game, so a lot of Polyphony's resources had to be devoted to development. While they're hardly sitting on their laurels, GT4 (like GT2) is mostly the same game as the one before it with a lot more content.

I just hope they improve the AI considerably - that's been the main downfall of the GT series. Of course, with online play, who cares about AI? I would venture to guess that GT4, more than any other game, will sell Sony's online service.

i just saw 1000 somewhere - as long as the SVX is in it i don't care how many there are! you're right about the AI, could use some work. the game will be more interesting with the improved scenery.
i wish they'd get the Porsche license and get all of their cars, too!

I have heard no claims of 1000 cars. Polyphony themselves have released no statements claiming 1000.

EA has exclusive rights to Porsche cars. Sony was able to secure RUF cars only because RUF's license with Porsche gives them so much freedom. I have no idea how long EA has the rights to Porsche cars, but I would guess that it's for quite awhile.

I though I had heard the 1000 magic number somewhere too, but I'm not sure where. EGM says "over 500," and they're usually pretty accurate. But, just after GT3 was released, the series creator (I forget his name) was quoted saying he'd like to have downloadable bonus cars, so we may eventually see 1000.

And yes, Atari still exists. It's just a name these days, though.

Downloadable content is out. Yes, Kazunori Yamauchi said that he wanted to do it, but (as is the case with all games) sometimes features have to be dropped. While it may not sound like a big deal to just have cars that you can download, the ramifications for the game are pretty big. I suspect the biggest issue for downloadable content in GT4 is balance. Balance was pretty much ignored for GT3, and that pissed me off royally.

Of course it's a trivial matter. I was simply correcting Alan - doing my part to stop the spread of BS over the internet.

I'm sorry it offended you.

You didn't offend me, I was just trying to do the same thing that you were... The plain fact is that video games must get better with every new one that is introduced, or they will not be bought... So this one will have a very large number of cars, and awesome game play!!!... But like I said, the 1995 Slcyone SVX will be on there... So we have nothing to worry about...

I can't wait till it coomes out!!! I'm gonna go over to Best Buy this weekend and reserve one copy for myself!!!

Just wondering ( becouse I'm a dumbass) how does the online PS2 thing work. Do I have to hook it up to my computer or something? Do I have to buy something to put in my PS2.
Most importantly, does it cost alot of money?

All you need is a PS2 network adapter and an internet connection. The adapter is about $50, but you can usually get one for about half that on eBay. If you have dial-up, just plug it into a phone jack. If you have cable, you need a hub to connect your computer and PS2 into. Unfortunately, a lot of games require broadband. But the best part, the service is free.

Okay, I don't have my PS2 online, so I don't know exactly how it works, but I will try to clarify it a little more. If you have dial-up service, then yes, you just plug it into the phone jack. I assume you then just configure your dial-up settings in the PS2's menu, but I'm not exactly sure about that part. If you have broadband, then you need a hub. You run separate CAT5 cables from the hub to your modem, computer, and PS2, and again configure it in the PS2's menu. Someone who has it should be able to clarify the PS2 setup part better than me.

As far as the free part, Sony doesn't charge for using their online services, you only pay for the Adapter and your regular internet bill. Some specific companies may or may not charge you for using their own games online. Microsoft, on the other charges a monthly fee of I believe $15/month for the use of their service, but I don't think individual companies charge for their games. There are pros and cons to both systems.

Like I said, the best way to find out exactly how they work is to find someone who has them, which isn't me. But if you guys have any other questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can.
