Question ECU code clear question, YIKES

Did code read, getting codes for 32, 33, 37, and 56. I do the code clear procedure, which turns off the MIL, but when I try to verify the codes are cleared again, they still read in the self-test instead of the MIL blinking steadily (cleared). Can cleared codes still be in the ECU but the MIL be off ?? I used to only get the code 56 until I cleared them the first time, then 32, 33, and 37 came up on the test drive immediately after. Im a pretty good mechanic but the spontaneous addition of the 30's codes has stumped me.

Re: ECU code clear question, YIKES

Disconnect you battery over night and try it again in the morning. It should clear any stored codes.

Re: ECU code clear question, YIKES

Interestingly, after I did the code clear, the MIL has remained off for about 30 minutes of driving. 4 codes just a fluke? Im sure the EGR one will come back but I can live without the others...... The subie ECU is a tricky one

Re: ECU code clear question, YIKES

you have cleared the codes and they have come back that to me doesn't sound like a fluke...It sounds like you possibly have pending codes... have you tried diagnosing any of these codes? one is a speed sensor code and you have two O2 sensor codes.... any driveabilitly concerns? do you know how to test a speed sensor or 02 sensors?

Re: ECU code clear question, YIKES

Ok, on the 4th trip out in my car, the MIL came back on before the car even warmed up. The same 4 codes reappeared simultaneously (32,33,37,56). That seems unusual to me..... do these sensors share a circuit? The O2's on both sides and the Vehicle speed sensor?? I know the 56 is the EGR, ive had that since I bought it..... but the other 3 codes popping up simultaneously to begin with.... then again today after the code clear a few days ago makes me wonder..... it idles and drives fine.... and also shifts fine. One more thing of note.... the fuel gauge fluctuates after about it gets down to about 2/3 tank.... going all the way to empty and then popping back up to 2/3. Could they be related electrically somehow?? Im stumped!

Re: ECU code clear question, YIKES

Fuel gauge is not related.

"do these sensors share a circuit?" no.

The 02 sensors will sometimes give a code because an unrelated condition they are sensing is incorrect.

"The subie ECU is a tricky one" ??

Big understatement!

Sorry,
Keith
