Ignition wiring question
I picked up my new ebony on Saturday and one of the things I had to do to get it started was remove the ghetto alarm that had been installed. All that the alarm basically was: cut the black wire with the yellow trace and run a wire from the unit to each end of the freshly cut black/yellow ignition wire. The alarm "unit had a slot that you would plug a circuit board key with traces on it to "complete" the circuit and therefore allow you to start the car. There were only the two wires used to interrupt the ignition wire and two grounds.
My Fix: I simply cut the two wires interrupting the black/yellow wire and then spliced the original ignition wire back together. However, the car will still not start. What I had to do was run a second jumper cable from the positive terminal of the battery into the car and touch it to the exposed wire where I spliced them back together at the same time holding the key in the "start" position. Obviously I do not want to do this every time I start the car... Any ideas?

I just changed my ignition switch a couple days ago and there are 2 or 3 wires on the back of the ignition unit on a brown circle that starts the car. See if those have been cut.

Do you have FSM's, trace out the ignition schematics, you should be able to find what the installer messed up??

No good ever comes of an aftermarket alarm system. Although I do like my remote start in the winter.

If yes, there is a break in the circuit from the switch to the starter... If no, the switch is more than likely faulty. Test the other leads on the switch for power in the off/acc/on positions to be sure there is 12v going to it. Tom |
