Eh, engine seals might be kleaking...Timing belt should have already been done. Just make sure the previous owners have some service records, or can at least recall any recent service done to the car. Somewhere in the how-to documents there's a nice guide to buying an svx, things to look for, ect.

Make sure you listen for wheel bearing noise, SVXi are notorious for bearing problems. Transmission problems are another chronic issue with these cars, although by 97 a lot of the issues had been worked out. 97 is a special year for the SVX, only 640 '97's made it here to the U.S. I also love the grill on the 97's. Be sure to check the glass for cracks and gouges, you don't even want to know how much a new windshield costs. I know I've focused on the negatives about the car, but that's because you asked. Despite the few problems that these cars have, they are an absolute joy to own and drive. There is nothing like being the only guy in town with a car like yours. If you buy it you WILL get bit by the bug and will be looking to buy another. They are like Lay's Potato Chips, you can't have just one. You might even find one day that you own 3, 4 or 5 or even 14, but it takes a special kind of person to reach the 14 mark.

just got back in from test driving it, and wow, its awsome, it has a cat-back stebro exhaust and other than that i think its stock, now i just need to make sure insurance isnt going to kill me on it and see what i can do to pick it up, i listened for the wheel bearing noise and didnt hear a thing, it seemed to be in really good shape,

whats an average price for a good shape, 116000 mi svx?? is the nada/kbb guide pretty close to average prices?

thanks for everyones help

The last one i bought KBB was off slightly and the NADA was way low for what i thought the car was worth. Unfortunately my credit union only goes by NADA. They laughed and said "You want us to give you how much for a 92?" Told em this is'nt a Chevy Cavalier i'm buying its an SVX for gods sake. Moral of the story the price for a car like this is based on how badly the buyer wants it. Its tough to follow any real trends on the prices so i consider the books useless. How much are they lookin to get?

If you get it for around $6000 you should jump on it. 97's tend to hold their value due to their rarity.
