Question How many 5MTs on the n/w & experiences?

Hi all,

I just want to have an idea on how many 5MTs were installed into our cars. Their condition and owner's experiences with them.

I made this poll public, so that others and future 5MT owners can look at the present 5MT owners.

You can give/explain your experiences by posting too...

Happy voting

Update: Please also indicate whether the installtion is done professionally or by yourself...

thanks,
-Pavan.

well not 100% but works well. My only problem is, the trans couldn't keep up with my drag shifts and I burned out my second gear synchos. Besides that, doesn't skip a beat

I have about 7,000 miles on mine, spec stage 3 first gen legacy 5spd AWD either 220,000, or 125,000 miles when instaled. Very abusive to it, and it will gring if you dont shift perfect into 2,3, so it definitley went down hill, but its still perfectley drivable.

My 5MT is in perfect condition, but I started out with essentially a brand new tranny, and then installed STi RA gears. Add a top quality installation job, and with the exception of low speed jerkiness caused by driveline slop (probably in the rear subframe), the tranny works perfectly.

Near perfect

My 5MT is near perfect. I bought it about a year ago with 92K on the ODO and now have 113K; I drive it every day. As with most SVXen, my baby needs little things here and there, but nothing that keeps her parked. None of my friends and associates believe that the 5MT wasn't standard; that's how well the conversion was done.

Hi gsodonis,
So you bought your car with 5MT installed in it? Do you any idea if the installation is done professionally or by the owner itself?

Subaru tech

The previous owner had a factory trained Subaru technician that opened up his own shop do all of the post-warranty maintenance on the car. Once the auto tranny failed, they had him do the 5MT conversion. I've since made some slight improvements along the way, but the installation was at least 98% spot on.

I did the install with a buddy, as far as the manual it is near perfect. I need to get a new exhaust because my tranny mount rubs slightly, and need the STi RA gears(just for a little more confidence in the tranny). I miss the top end speeds for freeway cruising, but it probably saves me on speeding tickets.

Getting close to 2 years on the 5MT for me. No new issues since installing it. I'm also looking to eliminate the driveline slop.
