don't screw around - get some Leatherique. its the best stuff there is, i've tried pretty much all leather cleaners and conditioners.
soak the leather in their Rejuvenator, and place a garbage bag over the seats for a day. repeat. then clean all the crap that has been pulled out of the pores to the surface with the Prestine Clean. its not cheap, but my two bottles are 7 years old and are still half full. they also have crack filler and dye for full restoration of damaged leather. http://www.leatherique.com/

Sounds almost like a leather dye, if it's made to restore the color in spots where it's been worn off. I'd be careful, and try it in a spot like the back of my back seat

I've been looking for something like this for a while. It must be a dye because it comes with gloves for application. Earl, do you have an old steering wheel laying around?

I have one on one of my cars that I was going to put a cover on. I can apply it to that and see what happens. I will post pictures when I do it.
