Possible temp fix to posting problems

I've been playing around with the freeze/100% consumption problem which occurs once in a while for me with both private and public posts. For some reason I got it into my head that it might be a time-out problem where I spend too much time writing and editing, and thus might end up being logged off automatically by the system because it doesn't "see" any activity. While writing a post, you're working locally on your PC, and aren't sending or receiving anything from the server.

I tested my premise by logging on without being remembered (that little check box), then went away for 15 minutes or so, then came back. When I clicked on the link to another forum and the screen refreshed, my userid was no longer in the upper right corner, and instead the logon function was there.

I tend not to have the system remember me so I log on each time I want to write. Perhaps that is the deciding factor between those who are having problems, and others who don't - whether or not you have cookies saved on your PC so the system always recognizes you. (in other words, whether or not you left checked that little "remember me" box)

So just now when I was replying to a post, the dang thing hung again. Instead of just forcing the task to end, I left the window untouched, opened up another IE browser window, came here and logged on again.

It worked! The frozen posting window unstuck and submitted my post.

Now this will only work if your entire system isn't frozen, since otherwise you obviously can't open another browser window.

I will have the system remember me and then see if my posting problem goes away. If I have no further freeze problems over the next few days, then I guess that's the culprit: being logged off automatically due to lack of activity and not being remembered. Means you lose your right to post, and are treated like a Guest.

Hah... I have two windows open right now, the one where I'm writing this and the other one where I logged on a while back. I just refreshed the other one, and the system has forgotten me again.

Methinks that's the problem: either I write too darned slow, or the system has a very short "memory" for inactive users.

Perhaps a better work-around is: just before you're ready to hit the "preview" or "submit" button, open another browser window and make sure you are logged on. If necessary, log on and then flip to your post and submit it. That should prevent any freezing at all You might get asked to log on yet again, but go ahead and log on again, then use your BACK button to go back 2-3 screens to your post. It will still be there, and you can submit it. That just happened with this post.

Lightbulb

here's what i figured out. when trying to reply to a thread, i write what i want to write and then copy it and use my back button to go back to the thread, then i click reply again and paste what i wrote and it posts. with private messages, you can't reply to a letter, you have to start a new letter. at least that's how it works for me. hope it helps. how's a fix going earl??

Hi Bipa, I am allways logged on, but it has only happened with that one post, I can reply, in length to any other post and have no problem. It is just that one that freezes up the pc. When it happens, I get one move, that I use to hit the start button and close, If I do any other move, all is lost.

Harvey.

Sorry, don't happen to have any "small" change at the moment

I am still working on it. I had my first problem today with a PM. That is the only time though. I will keep you up to date on this.
