Another AutoX @ FedEX

Well, it was a hot one at FedEx today (can you say 96 deg F?) with a wickedly tight, long course. Got a wonderful surprise that Mark Chiles (the guy that SCCA magazine has picked to win the Nationals this year in GS) has moved to Hershey, PA and is now running at the FedEx events This now gives us at least 4 drivers in GS that compete at the National level (Chiles and Garfield both have major sponsors!). It definitely gives you a strong group to learn from...

There were actually 18 drivers in GS, but one ended up listed under the "non competitive" heading (yeah, I drove right after him and got red flagged because I had almost caught him after about half the course....I did get a re-run, though!)

Pax-wise (knowing how much Ben and Dave like PAX ) I ended up 115 out of 232 drivers.

Just to give a comparison between the course at Cumberland and the course at FedEX, my best time at last month's Cumberland event was 49 and change. I'd have to say that the FedEx courses are at least 2x longer than those at Cumberland (with loads of off-camber, up and down hill, different surfaces, etc.). Just goes to show you that you have to be ready for everything!

-Bill (mumble, mumble.....Minis....mumble, mumble....)
p.s. chalk up another front sway bar end link attachment point to the R&D effort - snapped the driver's side bracket clean off of the strut on my last run! My machinist/welder just laughed when I told him I now had a matched pair (he TIG welded the passenger's side bracket back on when I snapped that one off 2 months ago....)

Wow! That's some stiff competition Bill. Did 'Austin the Navigator' tag along for the day? Any pics?

Great job btw.

Chike,
Thanks. Nope, Austin is up visiting with his N.J. grandmother.
Interesting note is that the general consensus - post event - from the folks who post on the WDCR-SCCA yahoo site is that Sunday's course was "go-cart like" -- the top PAX time was actually by a 125cc cart!
With the car now in Bill-Stock level II, I'm finding I have to re-learn how to drive it I think I would have caught that SE-R given another run. Just have to get the linkage bracket welded back on and be ready for a busy September!
