The variable valve timing 3.0L H6 should fit!

Well, the previous gen definitely will (I don't think the dimensions have changed any).

Found this two yr old thread on NASIOC when an Impreza owner installed a 220hp '03 3.0L H6 (which has variable valve timing) into their awd '95 Impreza:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=387716

A write-up with pics on the conversion can be seen here:

http://linaracing.com/pics/eventdeta...6%20Conversion

While he had the engine out, he took a few measurements of the engine:

Here are some basic measurements on the H6:
Across front: 32.25"
Across body: 29.75"
Across tranny attachment: 14.75
Between motor mounts: 14"
Front to rear: 18"
Height, sump to intake: 25.5"

first of turbo lag is overrated... second of all... theres a stick down between the passanger and the driver that has been called a "lag eliminator" before.

i dunno, i like down low power... but as long as its a manual transmission is doesn't matter all that much.

Obviously it isn't overatted by me. Subaru did a great job making turbo lag free cars 15 years ago now that they have become the boy ricer club members turbo lag is cool huh. As for your "lag eliminator" its tough to go down below first gear.

Yeah, I really wanna get 10 miles a gallon out of a 4 banger when I could simply buy a 6 that'll get 20 when driven hard plus as an owner of a stick subaru the 5 speeds have some definate limitations (i.e. more chatter than cops talking about doughnuts).

My dads WRX gets significantly better gas mileage than my SVX does, and he probably drives it harder than I do. He's also significantly faster

Turbo cars that are "lag free" aren't making near the power they could if they had a larger turbo on them. smaller turbos are usually much less efficient and usually don't give a "wider" power band, just a lower one.

peak torque to peak hp on a smaller turbo'd engine usually is about equal in terms of rpm range to peak to peak on a larger turbo'd engine. the only difference, is with the increased size, the rev range is moved up and as such, ends up making significantly more power.

and as for first gear, thats what the clutch is for

again this is just my opinion. if i wanted torque down low i'd have a large displacement v-8...

To get back to the Tribeca,

I saw some commercials for the Tribeca this past weekend. The whole commercial ws disappointing and not in the best interests of marketing. The theme music is 'Dust in the Wind' and the premise is that the Subaru Tribecca turns SUV's to dust and that it makes traditional SUV's obsolete. This type of advertising is very poor and usually backfires. I don't know who their ad agengy is, but they should be fired.
One of the basics tenets of sales and marketing is never to knock a competitor or class of competitors. You extol your own attributes and say why you are better. You never say why the competition is worse.

I guess Subaru did not learn their lessons from the SVX fiasco.

Is this not related to their Outback/Paul Hogan commercials?
