Dead Transmission / 4.11 or 4.44 Replacement?
Well, after 120k great miles, my transmission has finally quit on me . So, I am in the market for replacements and am considering all options. Would a 4.11 or 4.44 swap be cheaper than putting another svx trans back in? Does anyone have any for sale or know the best place to get one? Obviously, I'd like something in good shape that I can get my money's worth. I live in Phoenixville, PA (near Philadelphia), so if someone is selling, this area would be preferred.
Thanks for all your help!

What year? Not just any 4eat will cut it. Also, do you have the matching rear diff??

If I were you Id just go with a decent low milage 4.44. From what I see, the 4.11's explode just as easy as the stock trannies. the 4.44's are probly the way to go, I have yet to hear something bad about them
When you reinstall a 4eat, make sure to throw on a tranny cooler / filter to help keep it cool. Heat is what kills theese things. Good luck

It is from a JDM ej20h 94 turbo Legacy. These have been being used to fix the 91-94 USDM turbo Legs, they have the same problem with their trannys. With the Legacys it is possible to swap the original front diff onto the replacement tranny saveing the need to swap the rear diff. I don't see why it would not work for the SVX also (I know nothing about the SVX, all my cars are T-Legacys)
I may be buying an SVX this week and came here to learn a few things, then I saw this post........ I also have a couple of 4EAT 3.90 trannys (turbo Legacy) with matching rears. |
