Removing the steering rack
I could use a little help. I have the rack loose and need to ask what is the technique for removing it. I knew it couldn't exit left or right thru the frame rail, but I was hoping an obvious solution would show itself.
The best idea I've come up with is to remove the driver's side axle and roll the rack towards the back. When the pinion housing is pointed down, moving the rack to the passenger side until the inner tie rod clears the frame rail and then back towards the driver's side. Will this work or is there an easier work around. I tried to find an earlier post about this but didn't find one. Thanks, Keith B. |

Re: Removing the steering rack
I just removed it out of the subframe from my parts car(not on the car). From what I think you are saying, that would be the way to do it. For a little help you can undo the clamp that holds 2 of the lines to the rack. This allows them to be twisted a little out of the way a bit to better allow you to push the rack to the passenger side. This gives you enough clearance for the drivers side tierod to clear the subframe and then just pull the rack back out of the passenger side.
