Can you drain most of the ATF fluid.

I want to drain all the ATF oil or at least most of it to replace it with the Amsoil synthetic oil I understand that if you drain from the plug it only allows about 3 litres out at a time. As the Amsoil cost an arm and a leg I'd like to know if most of the oil will come out by drawing it through the dipstick as I don't want to dilute/mix it by the normal drain plug.

Re: Can you drain most of the ATF fluid.

The capacity is 9.5 litres though so only about half came out.

Re: Can you drain most of the ATF fluid.

The torque converter holds about 1.5 qts(not sure what that is in metric exactly) and you can only get that out by completely removing the transmission. And the only way to get as much as possible out is by removing the pan and letting it sit open for the fluid to slowly drip out for a day or more. I had my pan off my transmission for about 2 days and had to put around 7 qts (again, not sure on metric amt) to get it back to full.
