Good luck with your purchase. There are a couple of MI owners here. Myself, Mr. Pockets, Everclear (obviously), and a part-timer named SVX10 who goes to school at Kettering and lives in AZ.
He lives in New Mexico

Re: I'm unfamiliar with the SVX's, please help me out...

I'm up at MSU, hense the name. I've had this car for like 3, 4 months. This car is sweet! It handles our winter like nothing else. I haven't had to put any money into it, there's nothing wrong w/ the bearings, tranny, ect. Only thing was a wheel blew out, but I doubt that was the cars fault. You'll never regret getting this car!

It costs a thousand dollars to change the timing belt? I thought the timing belt was like 50 bucks or something?
I know mine hasn't been changed...

$50! wow, that would be great! I dont know how the timing belt is layed out on these h6's but I know on an infinity you have to drop the engine, open up a compartment on the engine, place each cylinder, then you can put the belt on. Plus the belt is like motorcycle chain. So I'm guessing the belt cost anywhere from $50-$150, but then there's the labor of all that.

Sweet, thanks again for all the responses, it'll be really helpful. Stupid me left the email sitting in my outbox all day, I just got in, been out since 11...so we'll see what he has to say.

Taking a short break, 15 minutes, and back to the library for the evening. I'll be checking any postings from there.

I'm second year, studying computer engineering. If I get the car, you can swing by next time you're in town for a party (next school year, most likely) and come check out the car.

I just want a car, and it'd be really nice if it were a cool one like the SVX. Hope he responds soon, I want to get the ball rolling.

What, if any, mods would anyone suggest for something equivalent to the supra BPU? I browsed through the mod section, didn't see anything terribly exciting. Apart from the aesthetics...I mean, I like the indiglo gauges, and I'll probably do that myself. Engine-wise?

latez all. Weather's crazy here, 70's today and the media union's 3rd floor isn't well ventilated nor is the A/C currently on. <sigh>

I was quoted $300 at Becker subaru for a timing belt change. It really doesn't look hard at all...kind like a V8 cause it's longitudinally mounted.

The belt lists for 100.00. but can be had for around 75.00 if you know where to look.

The major cost is in the labor (as is most things with the SVX). It isn't quite as complicated as the infinity. The reason it will cost so much, altogether, is, you'll probably want to replace anything else worn in there, in order to avoid re-paying for the labor later. Replace the cam and crank seals while they're there. The seals are not that terribly expensive, as I recall, around 50/60 bucks apiece (been a while) so, may as well replace them while they've done the labor. Same with the water pump. If you've got a lot of mileage, go ahead and change it. Another 50.00 part that can be replaced while all the "stuff's outta the way and avoid labor costs down the road.

Is one of those the infamous front engine seal?
