The SVX-DMC 'connection'

On the way back from lunch today, I noticed a DMC-12 outside the local AutoZone, so I went in to, uh, introduce myself.
The owner works there. He has three (count 'em - three) DeLoreans. This one is his 'beater'. It's an '83 with a burgundy stripe. (Yes Nick, you saw it at Autofest.)
When I told him who I was, and that I thought we should 'connect' for the next 'fest, he thought it was a great idea.
So here's the deal. Last year there were 13 DeLoreans parked together near the riverside. (If Micah had brought his other two, it would have been - you guessed it - 15!) All the way at the other end of the walkway there were 4 SVX's. What we're going to do this year is to get all of our entries in together - putting us all in the same area. Looks like we're gonna need some more SVX's to show up this year!
Did we have a great time last year? We had a great time last year!

Weird

No, not you. Well, at second thought, maybe you.
As you were posting this message, I was sending you a PM.
Read it (and weep). We'll miss you, Nick.

I would love to come to Autofest

I am a great DeLorean fan.
In general I love the Italdesign cars.
So there is only one DeLorean in whole austria and I want to buy one in next future.
I would love to be at an festival where svx's and DeLorean's meet, but I think that's not possible in Austria

How much do Deloreans go for nowadays? Maybe i can convince my parents to get one for my brother. Then we can do some comparing with my SVX.
Any ideas on some prices in the Chiago area?

Hmmm. I might have guessed you were a fan, Marty!

(The SVX is a better car.)

The one I saw the other day went for $1000. Try to find a deal like that!

It had been sitting in the desert for around three years with the plugs out. Everything in the car - including the engine - was filled with sand. It's a very long, but amusing, story. Micah claims to have 8 grand in it now. Need to replace a body panel? According to him, a front fender will run you around $3000.00!

Interesting fact: The DeLorean came with a space-saver spare. If you have to put it on the front - no problem - the flat fits in the trunk. But - if your flat is on the rear - and you want to keep the wheel - the passenger walks!

I had a friend who was in love with that car! Like serriously ga-ga for it. Delorian still sells this car! They over produced so many parts that they can still today build you a brand new one. check out http://www.usadmc.com/sales.asp you can now get it w/ a factory nav system they go for anywhere from 30-50K depending on the options you want with it. My friend payed $10K for his, it is pretty freakin awsome, lots of power in a 5speed manual, you can drive w/ the doors up...They do share one very important similarity, other than the 1/2 windows....no cup holders! There is one you can buy that fits in the door, only he realized why this was a bad idea a little to late

Actually, the original company no longer exists, and John DeLorean has completely disassociated himself from the automobile. The cars on this site are 'refurbished', or rebuilt. They will have many miles on the odometer, but will apparently be as new.

The DMC does have a dedicated following however, which has built up into a fabulous support system (we could take some lessons from them), and in fact, the whole car has been digitized, so that duplication of parts can be a close as possible to original.

It's a reasonably light car, but even with a 5-speed, I doubt if it'll challenge the SVX, except off the line. It gives up 100 horsepower to us.

DeLorean

I have got a friend in Switzerland (Lommis), who deals with DeLoreans in Europe.
He got two for his own --> One is his daily driver the other one
is brand new ('83) --> never used before --> it's in his garage
and looks GREAT!!!!!!
I drove around the block when I visited him half a year ago.
It was amazing. Everyone stops and looks at this car.
What's that? The time machine exists?!?
But it's not that sporty it looks like.
The DeLorean is like a snail compared to the SVX.
Never the less it's an perfect eyecatcher. Better than a Ferrari.
He bought a third one in Germany for about $ 5000 and repaired it.
I wanted to buy the car for about $ 14.500, but then he sold it to a member of european DeLorean-Club.
But I am still in contact with him and he will give me a sign, if he has one for sale again.
I also thought about importing one from US.
Does anybody know how much I have to pay to import a car from US to europe?

thanx for information
