ticking or knocking noise

ok just put a used motor in my svx all new gaskets and seals in motor new flex plate, after about 4 weeks now its making a pretty loud ticking sometimes knocking noise this only happens at idle up to 2,000 rpms then it seems to go away but i dont know because the car is so loud, the sound seems to be comming from between the motor and trans so i guess its my flex plate but its brand new anyone have an awnser or had a simmiler problem i am sure its not the motor because the sound isnt there untill i put it in gear then it starts ticking and does so after i put it back into park,im hopping this is simple

Could be a sticky lifter. That would be simple. Have you tried to determine the exact location of the noise?

Break out the automotive stethoscope (long screwdriver) and try to narrow down where the sound may be coming from.

SVXin, I have the exact same noise. I know the history of my car at least most of it, and it's been doing it for over 2 years. While not a master mechanic on Subies I do pretty well with 30 years experience with rebuilds. I really can't nail it down. My first guess was a flexplate, then I thought main bearing, then everybody gave their opinion you know how that goes... The noise while perturbing hasn't got worse so I really never found the source and it did'nt make the car fail. My latest thought was maybe something to do with the torque converter. If I ever find mine i'll be glad to pass on the info, if others with SVXes had this noise they'd know what were talking about. Still the flexplate seems to be the general area of the noise. A lot of people think its the valve train...ya right. Good luck anywho.

flexin

Svxin, I'm real glad you found problem. I've never pulled a G33, I assume you loosen the four t-converter bolts get rid of A/C, harnessses and undo motor mounts and lift. Is re-aligning a beotch? Also if you could; is there an actual crack you can see? Any info greatly appreciated, looks like i'll soon do mine.

the whole center section of the flex plate is broken all around the 8 bolts, and the flex plate only has about 200 miles on it no idea why that happend. the motor is simple to pull well only because this is the 3rd one ive pulled.good luck man
