Aug/Sept tour meet?

Hmmmmmm An SVXer campout at the end of the tour sounds fun! I'm going to look into what would be around the end of our route that might work.... a few ideas though..... (wheels spinning in Troy's head)

My initial thought was that with the end of the route going right by my house maybe I could convince the wife that we host a BBQ here. We also have a couple of spare rooms and/or lots of grass for tents, etc (that would be the second level of convincing the wife ). But if everyone is cool with camping, that sure sounds like a lot of fun to me too!

Any other thoughts?

Hey Nick, did you see Matt the other night? Did you ask him about the meet? I sent him a PM but I know he doesn't check email that often. I know a lot of the time he is pretty short on spare time though.

I actually just saw him drive by on hwy 2 when I was eating in town a couple hours ago. His car is pretty unmistakeable.

Nope.. I didn't see Matt the other night. He had some plans with his girlfriend and we didn't go out for a beer. I told him though about the meet and he seemed pretty excited. He's been very busy last month but now he's got more free time and he may be game for the Sept. meet And yes... Matt's car is Very bad-ass He was showing me some svx stickers he put on his rim caps.

On another note... I'm thinking about asking SmallCar for a deal on a 5 speed Maybe I can get an Impreza tranny cheap somewhere and all the other parts. Then I could ask SmallCar to install it for me for my 4-auto in exchange. Do you think they'd go for it? Earl? You think that could work? My auto seems to work very well. I've had no problems with it. I really want the stick though I could swap them myself but then I've got two left hands )) I write code for living and my patience levels are very short

Okay, I did some more research and this is really starting to come together.

I believe I have come up a good camping solution for those that want to partake. Should be good incentive to get the folks from farther away too! Lake Wenatchee State Park We've camped here before and it is pretty nice. Nice wooded campsites and a huge mountain lake that is gorgeous. The location is just east of the cascades, a little west of Leavenworth. So we'd still get most of the tour in on Saturday and by staying there could even stretch out the stops a bit. Also, those from the east side could knock two trips over Stevens Pass off their trip and still have the fun of hanging with the rest of us Saturday night.

From reading this thread, it looks like September 6th will work for everyone, so I think I'm going to go ahead and say that will be it. Those that didn't post any specific dates, we will assume will be available that day!

Seriously though, this campground accepts reservations and is in a pretty popular location. There are still 10-20 sites available when I last checked, but for peace of mind we should probably make reservations asap. We can probably get a couple tents per site if we want for saving a little $$$, but would also be cool that all the sites we get are together. So we should probably figure out how we are going to do this and then maybe one of us can make the reservations (and front the cash on good faith).

That is all of course if this idea sounds good to everyone....

That sounds good to me. You will need to find out how many cars and tents per site. They sometimes limit it to two cars. We should start a thread, or maybe better - email you with a confirmation on wanting to go. You could then try to get the reservations as well. If you tell us how much, we could send you a check or paypal you with the amount. This is sounding great. I will go along with Seasvx and what he said before.

I just called and talked to the reservations info line to ask some specific questions for our particular case. This is what it looks like for us:

Each campsite will be $16 plus a $7 reservation fee. Even if I reserve all the sites at once, we still have to pay the $7 fee for each individual site. This is just a one-time fee, so if someone did happen to stay another night or two, the fee is not charged again. Anyway, so we are looking at $23 per site.

For $23 per site we can have:
8 people maximum
2 tents
2 cars (additional cars cost $10 each and might have to park in the main lot)

So I figure it makes sense anyway to just double up on the sites at the most, or if someone prefers more privacy they can have their own site too.

So if you want to share a site, it will be $11.50 for the night.

I checked the reservations map again and as of right now there are 3 or 4 areas left where we can get 3 sites close to each other. It is my hope that we can have our plans figured out by the end of the day and I can make the reservations.

So could everyone try to pm me with the following asap:

1. Do you plan to come September 6th? If yes, go to #2. If no, thanks for letting me know. We'll catch ya next time.

2. Do you plan to camp with us Saturday night? If yes, go to #3. If no, we'll still look forward to seeing you for the tour, keep a look out for more info to come.

3. Would you prefer your own camp site, or would you like to share with someone?

Like I said, if I hear back from everyone that has posted in this thread by the end of the day, I will go ahead with the reservations. Soon after I do that I will probably be out collecting $$$ so keep that in mind when you answer the questions.

As far as who is sharing with who, etc, that should be easy enough to figure out once we get to the campground. And of course there are a million other things to figure out, but we'll start discussions on that once we get the reservations made. One thing at a time.

My GF isn't really interested in a 4+ hrs drive to camp one night, but my son is, so we may decide to come by ourselves(Adam and I) but I'll need to test these waters. Or we may actually go camping elsewhere.
Will try to make a commitment one way or another tomorrow.
Either way, Sept 6th is a good date.

I'm judging by the silence in my PM box that everyone is still deciding what to do. I apologize for the short notice on all this, but hopefully with a little teamwork this will go down as one of the best last-minute meets in history.

Whoah, I knew as soon as I started typing something another post would come in!

Understandable on your situation though. Not sure what your schedule looks like, but like I said, I can reserve on of the sites for more than one day if you guys wanted to stay Sunday night as well. (and Monday night, and Tuesday night....... ) You definitely don't have to pull up stakes with the rest of us on Sunday.

The other option (or you could add this on to the other plan too) would be a Friday night stay somewhere. That way you don't have to get up before dawn Saturday morning to make it to the tour start on time. If you are interested in doing that, let me know, I have a couple places in mind we could try to get you into camping wise.

I actually did! The same day I posted here and in General Babble I did one in upcoming meets too. It's still towards the top so I haven't had to bump it.
