If this wasn't so much work, it would actually be fun.

Doug

I suppose it could be something to do with the alarm, the Immobiliser Indicator maybe? I don't know.

Arthur has a '96 UK Polo. Maybe if it is on his car he may be able to tell us what the function of the switch is.

That usually stands for immobilizer key system, I didn't know that they had that on SVXs, but when they put in the new computer for OBDII, it would have been the perfect time to add it. I am pretty sure the first Subaru I am aware of in the usa with an immobilizer key was the 05 legacy w/turbo. Correct me if I am wrong

I thought that some of the ODBII SVXs had an ECON (Economy) button? That's what I was assuming it was.

The UK ones had ECON all right Doug, but the button was on the column shifter. The light lit up on the lower line of lights with the clocks.

It could not be that.

Hrrmm...

This is getting crazy. The more I research the more confused I get. I've found more switch bank part numbers and more cover options in the last day.

I think I need to start a thread just to try and decipherer these options.

The sensible approach is to take it at literal face value.

My guess or bet if you like is it is connected to an auto-arming immobiliser. I suspect if it is lit, this is an indication that the engine is immobilised and you need to plip the button or whatever to get the ignition to start the engine.

Probably a new wiring feature with the later wiring.

Just to elucidate, OBD 11 according to Phil I think, is only fitted to US cars because US legislation required it at that time.

The rest of the world had different OBD diagnostics which were not mapped to the OBD 11 protocols. Possibly the rest of the world got a variant of the Japanese protocols, or a protocol that mapped into upcoming EU legislation, I don't know.

In any event they are different.

This may be why this particular button is wired up as a status indicator.

Just my guess.

Joe

What is the switch to the left of the cruise on your car?

The right side switch bank (with headlamp washer) is part number 83001PA190

The left side switch bank is either 83001PA090 or 83001PA250 but I'm not sure yet.

Haya, just my 10c here. The usual weak point of the headlight washer is pump which stop working after some time. Mine went to heaven year or two ago and I have replaced it with one from old Subaru Forester. Now it is even more powerfull so can wash my windshield as well:-). It was very cheap and easy to do.
As for SW mentioned couple threads ago, I am trying to convince my dealer to give me Windows version with SVX included. Actual Windows versions do not cover such a old junk:-) so need to spent some time to dig in previous versions...

Re: Headlight Washers

Mine is wired to the headlights (like OEMs) - such that lights have to be on, in order that the washer motor works (no use washing the headlights when you are not even using them!!!).

Electric pump is the same as the Suzuki Vitara or Suzuki Escudo (and about 10% of the SVX price!!) - see last attachment, just need to change the connector.

Since doing the addition of the headlight washer in 2017, my pump has died due to water getting past the seals into the pump/motor magnet area - I would suggest that anyone with the headlight washer they should rotate the motor/pump such that the impeller and hoses are at the lower end of the assembly - nearest the ground (I will be doing that with my replacement Suzuki version).
