Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

Hi guys, this is my first post. I am located in Sydney and I am very enthusiastic about these cars. I read through all the posts in the Australian/New Zealand part of the forum and found some interesting information. I am looking to buy a late model in SVX and have a friend who owns about 4 of them. At present as of November 2014 I am interested in finding out more about the following:
1. How active are SVX owners in NSW in club activities and meets?
2. Who can I contact to get more information about the number of cars and their colours sold in Australia. I noticed the first ever post lists some vfacts sales figures which are great, but I am trying to research what colours were sold each year. I have tried to contact Subaru Australia, but they seem unwilling to help at all. Would it be worth contacting a motoring journalist who may get better access to the right people.
3. Around 2012 I saw a creamy yellow SVX displayed at Penrith Subaru, which was not for sale and apparently owned by Subaru. I was interesting in finding out where Subaru has this car now but once again the company has been unwilling to help. Someone has suggested that Subaru has its own museum in Australia. I have only seen 2 yellow ones, this one and one that was driven by an African guy up and down Windsor Rd every morning. Can anyone shed some light on these cars and museum.
Any information would be most helpful. Cheers

Re: Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

I only have half an answer for #1...

I'm not a car club kind of guy these days, but I know there's me and several others in your neighbourhood who are super passionate about the SVX.

I'm personally in the middle of restoring one, having gone back to bare metal to give it a fresh start. And I'm willing to help with info and spares where possible for anyone else doing the same.

As for Subaru, yes I've heard of similar unhelpfulness.

But let us know if you hear anything about the museum etc.

Re: Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

Hi flame stone, thanks for your reply, good to hear that people are doing things in the neighbourhood and there are people who are passionate about these cars. Subaru must have records of how many cars were sold each year and what colour they were its just getting someone who is willing to assist in helping out. In the very first post in this section there are sales figures gathered from V-facts which highlight how rare these cars became in 95-97 and particular colours such as yellow and red are not very common. I have see 2 red ones and 2 yellow ones. Subaru Japan as quoted in this forum around 10 years ago were interested in talking to any Australian owners who had one. Anyway I am keen to get a late series soon to enjoy.

Re: Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

I think most of the late model svx's are red, green or yellow

Amazing collection you have. Talking about red ones, one just got sold in Sydney, it was a 94 model advertised on gumtree, the other was for sale in Perth. I have seen 2 creamy yellow ones, one is owned by Subaru Australia. They had it on display at Penrith once. I've been trying to get some information from them to see if I could see it again somewhere but they have been extremely evasive. They are also not very forthcoming with any information about the sales history of these cars. They must have records of the stock they ordered from Japan including what colours they were. In the end its not really that big of a deal but would like to compile some historical facts about these cars.
BTW I was wondering whether the 2 JDM cars you have were bought by you when the car was already here or whether you imported them from Japan. At present I have seen a few for sale on some Japanese websites as well. Wouldn't mind getting a 97 blue one.

Re: Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

I've only got one jdm svx which fortunately a four wheel steer. It was imported to nz by a dentist that then brought it to oz as a personal import (cost him $20,000) to get it complied, it looks black but it actually has a cherry red mica pearl to it.

Subaru Australia are hopeless with information, I've tried. The Reds you've seen were they solid red or metallic red? Anything with a black roof is pre 94.

Have you looked at import monster? They access Japanese yahoo auction sites and convert it to ingrish (that isn't a spelling mistake) and offer the opportunity to bid and import anything from Japan

Hi E, the red ones are solid red all round. I will see if I can find a picture of it. Will have a look at those websites.

Re: Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

Nice red SVX, that's the same type as the one sold recently to a friend of mine and yours looks pristine. I remember some time ago Subaru were trying to track one down. Reading through some of the very early posts on this forum has a story about it. It seems that during that time the SVX forum activity was quite strong. Hoping to track down a late 96 model in yellow one day which would be difficult I know.

Re: Obtaining information about SVX's in Australia

Hi!

I just stumbled onto this topic, as I haven't been on this forum for quite a while!

When I first acquired an SVX (back in January 2004), there were several other owners in Sydney who were very keen on these cars - but now, there aren't many left!

From what I have seen, the number of SVXs in Sydney has definitely dropped over the last 5 to 10 years, and good examples are very hard to find.

A good friend of mine has seen that yellow SVX that you saw around Windsor, and he showed me a photo of it.

That SVX had a black roof, which is not how those cars were painted from the factory (factory yellow SVXs were painted yellow all over, including the roof). That would imply that this particular SVX was not originally yellow.

Jason.
