Re: Suggestions for Xmas present-tools for son

Me being the cheap-o I am picked up just a basic tool set from Harbor Freight. $190 got me almost everything. 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive sockets in both metric and SAE. Got every size screw driver, 3 sets of hex wrenches, star shaped ones, you name it. Used every piece to take apart a car. Good start if you don't have much and wanna get going.

I'd get him a torque wrench. I just got a 4 1/2" angle grinder, maybe get him one. They're fun and make lots of sparks too.

Re: Suggestions for Xmas present-tools for son

Again, thanks for the suggestions!

He had the socket set and torque wrench. Got those in the spring.

Sales are on all over, so got him a set of 5 pliers, a multimeter, and a set of SAE and Metric ratcheting box end wrenches. All for a little over $100...(that's US$78!!)

He is now thinking doing an engine swap, so they'll come in handy.

Now he just needs a place to keep them all so I'm not tripping over them in the garage. There are some deals on tool chests. Maybe that's what I'll ask for!

You could always get him a second garage! That way he's out of your hair, and he can spread out as much as he pleases.
