98 Subaru Forester FOR FREE!!!!!

so my parents got a free forester, lucky them. anyway, my dad needs my help fixing it, it just stopped running one day with the previous owner and she bought a new car so she gave this one to my mom. anyway, my dad figured it was the starter so he took it in and it was shot. he got a new starter and now there are other problems so i thought id ask everyone on here.

so he said before he took the starter out there were 2 wires on it. one was hot and the other wasnt. after he installed the new starter the hot wire is no longer hot. anyone have any input on what it could be? he had the jumper cables hooked up right and everything was the same as before.

thanks for any help!

Re: 98 Subaru Forester FOR FREE!!!!!

There should be two wires going to the starter, a big fat one with an eyelet on the end of it that goes to the battery, and a little dinky one with a plastic connector on the end that snaps into the back of the solenoid. The one to the battery should be hot at all times, the little one will only be hot when the key is turned to "Start". If he didn't disconnect the battery before replacing the starter, it's possible a fusible link got blown.

What he said/\

But also, the main ground wire connects to a bracket that is held on by one of the starter bolts (the top one) so maybe he didn't re-install it.....
