Question Is this fair pricing for a SVX rear end?

Today I started shopping around for some stock SVX parts for my FWD --> AWD 5MT conversion. I went to a salvage yard, and was quoted the following prices:

- Driveline: $125
- Rear LSD: $250
- Half shafts: $50 each

All of these are from the same car. I asked about the milage, and the guy said that the gauges had already been removed. They only had 4 SVXs, and he said that he thought he remembered the milage to be somewhere around 123k. I am thinking about getting the VIN from it, and checking on Carfax.

For the age of the parts, what do you think of the prices?

Seems a little high for the rear lsd esp since you will be gutting it to fill one that matches the 5 speed. Check out www.car-part.com. Did you get a 5 speed yet? If not you might just wanna get one that is an LSD. 1st gen Legacy Turbos have 'em and I think most foresters do as do the GT Legacies. If you go that route you'll save some time and the $$ for the rear dif.

I think they could be better.
I have been buying late model rear ends for $100.00.
If you need new stock ring and pinions, housings, but not the center carrier or LSD, I have about four laying around. Pay the shipping and if you need one it's yours.

Good plan, actually! I would like to go for 4.11 gearing.

Here is the list of Subaru cars with rear LSD, 4.11 style. The info came from http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/lsd/lsd.html

2000 - 2001 Impreza 2.5RS 5MT
2002 - 2003 Impreza WRX 4EAT

Now, what 5MT cars came in 4.11, aside from the 2000 - 2001 2.5RS? I was thinking that a Forester tranny would be nice, but I can't find any info for it.

Actually, a better thought would be to get a WRX tranny that has the 1.1:1 stepdown. This way, I could keep the SVX rear LSD intact, and then just worry about getting the WRX 5MT.

So Phil, please do take a look at the SVX rear diff that you have. Any idea about how many miles it has?

I think you should pioneer the first 05' Legacy 5eat sportshift transplant
