Nothing weird, no warning, just driving fast up a hill when there was a loud thunk grind shudder.

Hope yours is OK.

more or less the same for me when it happened. I went to the grocery store, nothing to mention. On leaving for home, I was pulling out of the parking lot, turning left, moderate acceleration, and in the middle of the turn, BAM, thud...thud...thud. An interior piece of the aluminum case flaked off and got between the ring & pinion. While AL is soft compared to the ring & pinion metal, it isn't compressible, & with gears breaking I proceeded to make an internal mess as I tried to get out of the middle of traffic.
