I believe the evo uses a 4.65 final drive ratio. What result would a 4.65 final drive ratio have on the svx (hypothetically of course)

I believe the '03 Forester (new body style) uses either a 4.11 or 4.444 final drive. This is a new transmission in that car... it is the same as the STi v4 and v5 boxes, and designed to hold the torque of towing.
An 03/04 Forester Turbo has the 4.444 gears I think. Look for a wrecked one, it should be soon. |

Only the automatic Foresters have the 4.44 gearsets, or so I was told by all the 'Subaru only' experts that I asked. But the 4.11s are more common. And they are not all that easy to come by either. Please correct me, or them, if I am wrong.

Quite true. I was confusing my info... the TURBO Forester 5 speed being released now has the 4.444 rear end in it. That would be a great swap. By the way, Forester trannies are not that hard to find. There's an import salvage yard near Hickory, NC that people call the "Subaru Graveyard"... Of course, the 2.5RS from 99 to 2001 had the 3.73 or 3.90 I think... but the gearing is shorter, it would drive you nuts in an SVX. The auto trannies had the 4.11 rear end, which is a match for the Forester 5 speeds if you can't find a Forester diff. Last edited by Porter; 04-04-2003 at 07:54 AM. |

P.S. - MAKE SURE YOU GET AN LSD!
Most of the 2.2L and 2.5L Subarus came with an open rear differential! Make absolutely sure that you get a limited slip rear diff that matches... cars that came with them were the Legacy GT, the GC8 Impreza 2.5RS after 1999 (2000-2001), the Foresters, the Impreza Outback Sports, and some of the Legacy Outbacks. The SVX is LSD in the rear... don't replace it with an open diff, it will change the basic handling characteristic of the car. |

Hey Porter
Be careful with throwing around gear ratio numbers. You're way off with most of what you've said in this thread.
I'm not trying to attack you, but your numbers are just plain incorrect. Todd

How about this....
Over the weekend I will compile a complete list of every type of transmission that has ever been in a modern Subaru, including final drives and type of LSD. I'll post it so that you have a complete, accurate, and absolutely unarguable resource for final drive specs, tranny data, and LSD information. I'll see you guys Monday with that info. Cool? -Porter |
