Yes, as I said before, this is nice I like the format.

A couple of suggestions; I do not like the photo, but using Chris's suggestion of a rotating database would solve that. Also a prominent Skip Intro button would be good.

Most regular users would be linked directly into particular threads on a day to day basis anyway, so the front page is more for image and for visitors.

Well, I agree with the KISS camp. I also do not wish to see all sorts of fancy graphics. Maybe a nice pic of our wonderful car (changing every week is cool) then a large button directing the newbee to the forum.

It should be clear from the "Top Page" that this IS a FORUM and the forum is about the SVX. That's all. All the other stuff is available on John's site and the like. I REALLY love his site for the layout and information...and that wonderful nav bar.

Maybe just some opening remarks to the effect that this is a forum and it's all about SVX's.....

I think its a good idea. If we can't be a group willing to help eachother out even with giving up a small amount of time, then we aren't much of a group. Lwin, I really like your design, as it allows for easier access to the parts of this site that appear to be missing (or at least hard to find). For a new SVXer being able to hit the FAQ, or the vehicle specs on a simple click would be VERY nice. Believe me, it was a hassle when I was debating buying mine. I do prefer the rotating vehicle pics though. I can't say mine is the prettiest SVX, but I'm sure even I could get one really good pic I would be proud to show off. This also makes the site seem more inviting for new people. If they know that everyone gets a fair shot at being an active "important" member, it would be much more appealing to join.

It's like this. I went through the "more cool flashy stuff makes a good website" phase. Then I realized the truth is: "Less is better". If you make a graphics laden site it takes longer to load pages. Remember; your site should be based on a 56K throughput (which as we all know is really more like 36K). I hate to say it but I think this site is for people who ALREADY know what an SVX looks like. Any pictures we need (or want) to see or share should be in the personal lockers. I like it this way. Simple and to the point. We don't need no stinkin' graphics (to paraphrase a famous guy).

Joe, I respectfully disagree. I hate to say it but we NEED more active members. I try very hard to get the few SVXrs I DO see to come here and participate. Yes, they do know what the car looks like, but a simple picture of their beloved baby would confirm that they have in fact made it to the right place.

I'm not asking for glizty graphics. Just a simple cover page that lets our friends know that this is home. They need to see that this place is real and not 'just another site'. Most people DO read a book by it's cover and this book's cover, I'm afraid, says little. (No offence sysops)

All I'm asking for is a simple clean up of the 'cover page' and a nice picture of our beloved babies. Our cars that is....
