So, you all have kind of come to a consensus that it is most likely not the alt. but in fact that the cause of my problems is the positive terminal being all frayed and loose and disgusting looking? the car runs fine after the first jump all the way until you turn it off. immediately after turning it off, i tried to start it with no luck. the power seatbelts didnt even move and the doors wouldnt lock.

check to see the output of the alternator..it could just be a completely dead battery..how old is the battery??
it could also be a loose/dirty connection at the connection to the battery..

Smile alternator?

I might be too late but will offer this experience. Both times my alternator failed, it made an awful screeching noise, not the belt but from inside the case and was way too hot to the touch.
Hope your problem is solved in any case.

Bruce

If this happens again, go straight to your Autozone, or Advance Auto (or similar) and they'll check your system (starter, bat, alt) for free. Takes them only a few minutes. They also have a "starter pack" in case you shut your car off and it don't wanna start. It's the best "nothing" you'll spend, for peace of mind.

Meanwhile, Adam, don't be feeling me!

Kelli, there is only one Larry III. But there's Randy i (me) and Randy ii (svxeno). Glad I could clear that up.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.
