Hydrogen

That was an interesting explanation of the future transition to hydrogen Pockets. I thought the petroleum industry had to have some economic stake in the change! Don

Gas

<They're now saying that bovine flatulence helps to deplete the ozone layer>

There is another member of the animal kingdom that is supposed to be the #1 producer of methane.

Anyone care to make a guess? Don

Are we talking about an individual animal and its massive intestinal volume, such as an elephant? Or, are we looking at a group of smaller animals producing a TOTAL volume in excess of our bovine friends?

I'd guess the elephant for personal bests, with plankton tied with water buffalo for group honors.

Ron.(always up for an intellectual discussion).

Though im sure my post will be ignored... Hydrogen powered vehicles isn't that new of an idea, nor will they look anything like the car in that picture, or so we all hope. In europe they have been making hydrogen powered cars for quite a few years. They do put out a decent amount of HP as well. The last ones I saw were some BMWs that they converted the engine out. Another cool thing about it. The exhaust is water, heh. The main problem is that its still not main stream enough to be cost effective, but they do predict that the cost of hydrogen will be about the same as gas is now, once they get it into mass production.

On a related note...

What more reliable source could you ask for than the China Youth Daily?

I think in about 10 years we will mostly be using natural gas in the autos. The older cars could have a tank installed in the trunk.

Don. It has been a while since we had one of those "running poem" threads. Remember the petroleum producing microbes? That was fun. I think it is time for another... I'll start

The world's most prodigious farting machines,
are not cattle, or horses, or Beav and his beans
If I am correct, they're much smaller than that
A bit south of the bumblebee, north of the gnat

When they've finished chewing your house all to hell
Their wind breaking chews up the ozone as well
Their farts are quite tiny, a wee little puff
But add up the billions, it's more than enough

However, without them, we may be done in
For their gas passing also makes nitrogen
A full third, by some counts, of our breathing gas
Is brownies once baked in their segmented ass...

Your turn

No, hydrogen power is not a brand-new idea. Neither are fuel cells - the Apollo craft were fuel-cell powered.

But what is newsworthy is that the auto industry finally seems to be putting real money and effort into alternate power of any kind.

In my opinion, as a professional writer, I don't think this can be improved upon.

Thanks, Randy.

The point is not to improve, merely to add too. Don's brewing up something good right now, I can smell it...
