I believe there's a correlation to these two entities.

As you may (or may not) know, "Citizen Kane" was Orson Welle's attempt at an Autobiography of Wm Randolph Hearst. Mr. Hearst actually tried to quash the movie because it had too many personal morsels of information. One of which was the "pet name" he had for his mistress's . . . um . . . how should I put it? Uh . . . "naughty bits." He called it . . . "Rosebud."
Hey Randy, thanks for being a man and callin' me on my dare Thanks also for the, um, clarity, um, on the, um, Rosebud parts. Um. It just shows ta go ya that you don't need breakfast radishes to be whacked in the brain case. Tough call to make on who was more along the way regarding Hearst, Wells or the writers of a 60's sit-com.

By the way, we're going for a "Re:" record here aren't we?

What is interesting is the significance of the word "Rosebud" in the movie, "Citizen Kane." Anyone know what that is?
Hey, Randy - Know problem.

Are you asking "significance" as in the fact that the sled was named "Rosebud", or are you asking WHY was the sled named "Rosebud"? As to the latter, I believe it was simpler than trying to spell "Chrysanthemum".
This Bud's for me!
Ron.

Just the significance of the word itself, which, of course, I've already described.

Re re re yur beet geently dewn de streem!

PS: Ron, if you think "French Breakfast Radishes" is hard to say, try my favorite: "Rotary Windrow Rakes."

Got a brother who didn't know he couldn't say "rear wheel bearing" until he called and tried to order one for his MG. Of course saying rear wheel bearing isn't anything an SVX owner is going to struggle with. Except maybe having to say it often

And what might a "Rotary Window Rake" do exactly? Or as the products voice do they not tell you?

I still struggle with saying "rear wheel bearing" even though I can say it clearly (right Beav?). More choking on the words than slurring them.

A rotary windrow rake, rakes your cut hay into windrows so your baler can pick it up and form it into bales. Probably an obsolete machine since the advent of large round bales.

Meanwhile, one more tongue twister and I'll leave this subject alone. In my early radio days, when reading news, for some reason, "fire fighters" sometimes refused to come out right. Probably my southern accent trying to take over. In the south, "fire" is pronounced "far." I would somehow supress the accent on the first word, but, it would show up in the next. So, "fire fighters" came out "fire farters."

For the same reason they don't light their own cigarettes.

Now I'm gonna bale out of this nightmare.

Cool

I think this thread needs resurrection for the relief of some of the tension currently oozing about this site. My apologies to anyone professing sanity.

Ron.

That explains a whole lot more to me. Especially the significance of naming the sled after her "private parts" (I wonder if it was a Flexible Flyer?). Ever hear of the expression... "I rode her like a toboggan"?
