To All Tranny Troubled Svx Owners

I have just blown through my third tranny in 105000 miles. My first thought was to junk the car I then thought, Subaru might do something for me, "what a waste of time that was". I suggested to my father, who by the way is an attorney, that this web site was full of other disgusted SVX owners who pretty much have all the same problems I have. He then put a complaint into consumer protection, as well as to the NHTSA. NHTSA's website has a complaint form, that can be filled out online. So if we all notify them about the same problems, they may be able to do something for us. Because, the more complaints they receive the better the chance for an investigation. We must make them hear our cries.

some quick questions.

did you ever install a tranny cooler after any of these replacements?

if so did you run it parallel or in a series to the stock tranny cooler? or did you by chance bypass the stock cooler?

There have been several pushes to petition the NHSTA, with no result.

There has been a class action lawsuit -- plaintiffs settled out of court. Ergo, SOA succeeded in keeping the courts from ruling. After all, a settlement to a handfull of complaintants would be far less than having to re-fit all remaining SVXes.

There have been repeated letters to SOA. Nothing has been done.

Please ask your father if there is any other route we could take. We'd love to hear it.

Meanwhile, if you put another tranny in, make darned sure you put on an aftermarket cooler and change (or install) the program filter. With 3 trannies trashed in 105K, it sounds like the OE cooler is clogged and nobody is bothering to flush it before installing a new tranny. Have all three been installed by a Suby dealer? If so, and it's the same dealer, I'd go after them first -- especially if you can prove the stock cooler is clogged.
