Ignition cylinder/ key not workin’

Problem: Lost my only keys for my 96 LSi.

Attempted fix: bought new blanks from Subaru, they did a STAR System search and cut me a key for the number listed.
-Key only works on doors and trunk.
-Contacted Subaru in NJ, they had no answer other than “call a lock smith.”

Can Anyone:
Tell me if I can, and how do I remove the ignition lock cylinder without my key?

At this point, rather than spend the $200.00 to get the locksmith to do a house call and make a key, looks like I can get a “key kit” from subaruparts.com for $210.00. http://www.subaruparts.com/cart/?pn=57410PA160

For security reasons, the ignition lock cannot be removed without brute force and destruction unless you have the key.

I assume you had a single key that worked in the doors and ignition? If so, The tumblers in the ignition may be really worn. I only ask because one of my SVX came with a replaced passenger door that I didn't have a key for

If the key kit from Subaru comes with the ignition, doors, trunk, and glove box cylinders, that is $210 very well spent. I spent about $150 on a complete set on Ebay a few years ago.

Forgot to mention you can wire wheel the hell out of your dealer cut key to wear it down a little. It may then work to unlock the ignition. Be careful, just go a little at a time.

You turn it to the acc position (I think) then there is a pin you push in with a small punch and the whole cylinder pops right out. Much easier that the doors.

Oh well, I will (try to) pull the trim around the steering coller off and see what is what.

Well, after a 9 days of lost keys I come home tonight to find my cat playing with them in the middle fo the living room floor.
As best I can tell, she couldn't take watching me come home and cry all night long, that or my constantly looking for the keys was getting in the way of her being fed on time.

Sure enough though, the key for the ignition is not the same as the door keys. I guess I will get the key kit anyway.
