Cool Huck's in SubieSport Magazine!

Just bought the debut issue of SubieSport magazine at Borders last night and whom do I find in the Reader Rides section (page 14) but our own "Huck". A nice write-up on his ground-breaking 5 speed install. His Pearlie is the only SVX in the entire magazine! Congrats!!

-Bill (only 18 Subies behind Huck in the ownership column )

p.s. Huck, what's this about a supercharger?

Debut issue, I have already seen the second issue. I guess things move slower in the retail world. Easy Street Motorsports (ESX) and Subaru is teaming up and coming out with a California edition STI 425HP and a paint scheme that mimics the ESX drag car. Limited production but it should mop up the EVO MR.

I actually didn't hate the mag (was the one who sent poor Huck his copy as he didn't even know he was in it). Had some life prior to the WRXcrap in it. If that keeps up I'll renew my subscription. If not they can go the way of Saab (sorry I mean Subachevy).

The part of the mag I found most usefull was the ads in the back for different shops specializing in Subie mods --- still waiting on responses from my emails to see if they've done any EG33 work...
The "The Would-be Tuner's Ten Commandments" article was interesting for its comment "On Subaru motors, the most power comes from ramping down to about 11.2 AFR at redline. This allows over 30 degrees of timing at high-rpm, which makes great power."

Very interesting. I may just need to take out a subscription for this info alone.

One question, ramping down to an AFR of 11.2 at redline for max gains with 30 degress of timing advance - is this true for N/A Subaru engines as well as Turbo'd ones?

Chike,
The article didn't differentiate between na and turbo'ed.
The quote was from Scott Siegle of Siegle Racing. He was also quoted as saying "The idea (sic) ratio for making power is near 13.1:1." (note: both quotes were on page 32 of the December 2004 issue)

There we are back at that 13.0:1 ratio that the dyno technician pointed out to us the other day... maybe I'll look into getting an SAFC-II next Fall and run two sets of afr maps - 13.0:1 for max performance and 14.0:1 for better fuel economy on the street.
